Hello friends,

I started this topic so that I can show you all my new "Conversation Piece" that I just finished today. ::tu::

What started off as just another advertising pen knife, turned into a "Conversation Piece" project that is now on my livingroom wall right next to where I always sit on the couch. As it turns out, ZWICKY is a Swiss brand for sewing threads. Not only did I find a Victorinox Elinox pen knife with their advertising on it but I also found a ZWICKY advertising picture & some ZWICKY thimbles to go along with it. The cat in the picture is also on the knife. And the thimbles (1-older & 4-newer) also say ZWICKY on them. ::tu::

I could go into a few details about it all but I doubt that it be necessary. ::hmm::

So without further ado, here are some pictures of it all after I put it together. Hope you enjoy the pictures & thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: ::super_happy::

Of course it's necessary :D

It amazes me how an advertising knife inspired you to come up with such a cool item. Did you acquire the knife with intentions to make something like this? Great job!

I've been re-organizing some stuff recently, & am setting out some items I plan to display in my office. I have a full set of AAPK club knives (still need to add 2020 to the display) ::groove:: ... Three scrimshawed knives that astonish me; done be an old friend... & I can't help but include; a fishing lure display... just to get a chance to show it off - Heddon sonics - favorite lure when I was a kid fishing in local ponds ::nod:: Dad would be stingy about letting me grab them at will out of his tackle box after I'd already lost a few. It amazes me how an advertising knife inspired you came up with such a cool item. Did you acquire the knife with intentions to make something like this? Great job!

I've been re-organizing some stuff recently, & am kind of setting out some display items to display in my office. I have a full set of AAPK club knives ::groove:: ... Three scrimshawed knives that astonish me; done be an old friend... & I can't help but add a fishing lure display just to get a chance to show it off (knives in background on bookshelf  )
Hi Bryan,

Great to see some of your showcases & display items. I especially like those 🐟🎏 fishing lures. ::tu:: Jeffinn makes some nice custom fishing knives that would go along great with those lures. Just a thought. ::shrug::

Details: Ok

When I bought the knife, I had no idea it would turn into a project. Looking for information about the word "ZWICKY" on it, I soon learned that it was a Swiss thread making company. Looking for information about the thread company I ran across several advertising pictures from them and just found them to be cool. So I looked on eBay to see if I could find one of the advertising pictures. Which I did. It came to me from England. While looking for the ZWICKY advertising picture, I also ran across the ZWICKY thimbles. Then my creative thoughts ::hmm:: started to kick in & I decided to make a "ZWICKY Conversation Piece". ::nod::

The "metal shelf" on the bottem of the picture frame is a drawer handle from the hardware store. Mounted with 2 screws that go through the frame below the glass of course. ::nod::

Then, I needed something to raise the knife up in front of the picture so I went looking through my "nuts-N-bolts treasures". Anything I throw away always gets checked for nuts, bolts, washers, screws & anything else that looks cool & reuseable. The metal "Whatchamacallit" (that kind of looks like a small thimble) is something I got out of some expensive speakers my former boss threw away. It has something to do with speakers, amps ect. I'm sure someone knows the correct name for them when they look at the pictures. ::nod:: Anyways, it looked just right for my project, however it was not magnetic. ::doh:: ::hmm:: So I found a screw that would fit down inside of it but it was too long. So I clipped it off with some side cutters, placed it down inside of my "Whatchamacallit" & screwed the cap back onto the "Whatchamacallit". Then I added a magnet to it to hold the knife up in front of the cat. ::nod:: Then I just drilled a hole through the drawer handle and mounted it. The lip of the drawer handle hides the nut that holds the "Whatchamacallit". ::tu::

The "5-Thimble-Crown" sits on top of 5 screws. ::tu::

Here are a few pictures of the "Whatchamacallit". ::handshake::

Thanks Tom. The case with the English Jacks in it was purchased on another forum that (I think) is now defunct. The other two were a gift from Greg Smith (gsmith7158). For some reason Greg has gone lights out and I miss him.

Happy wife. Happy life. I think every guy deserves one room in the house that's all his own. The rest is all hers. But then what do I know.

I'm not big on displays, myself...although I do enjoy seeing other peoples' displays. :D

Tom: your Zwicky display certainly is interesting and I bet quite a conversation piece. Nice job! ::tu::

Bryan: do I detect some mini trappers in your display case? If you're a closet Mini-T junkie, it's time to come clean and post them for all to see, especially in the threads where The Mini-T Monkey goes to get his daily MT "fix"-----I'm sure you know the ones I mean: ::nod::

jerryd: very nice displays (particularly that one that has a wall all to itself!) :D

gumshoe: if you display only one knife, you chose a nice one...love the scrolled bolsters on your Copperhead. ::tu::

I'm ashamed to say I don't have very many in my collection ...& none on display . There are a couple full sized ones in the case, though ::tu:: .

Jerry's display & viewing those threads are making me think maybe I've been mistakenly overlooking the little fellers ::drool::
