Somehow, this one got by me and I found it after the auction. ::dang:: 😡
I'm posting this for posterity and as a reference. It is a single blade "ALLEN."
It is stamped on the handle and on the blade tang. The knife is NOT mine.
The pictures are NOT mine. The pictures are the seller's and have NOT
been edited, altered or enhanced by me, EXCEPT for the size.

Yesterday afternoon, this became the latest pocket knife to join my collection. I can't see any remains of a tang stamp. I will say that it is a G. SCHRADE, single blade, cap lifter/bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, "figural" pocket knife. The blade sits a little high, but that doesn't bother me. This is my fifth pocket knife in this pattern or style. This is my first pocket knife, in this pattern or style, that has these particular handles (non-advertising). The scene(s) depicted appear to be of a meeting, set in the Colonial era. I bought this pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar pattern or style. They're all posted throughout this topic/thread. It needed a cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Skip, you and I wind up chasing a lot of the same knives, lol. I bought this one because of the unique design. You can see the newer Imperial knife that looks / works almost exactly the same. These knives don’t have back springs. The one piece frames are made of spring steel and twist to supply the tension needed for the blade to stay open or closed. It’s tough to describe even when you have pics, but I’ll do my best. The Allen frame has an open back except for up by the tang where an extra bit of metal is folded over and the tang rolls over that when rotating. This flap is only connected to one side of the frame. The pivot pin runs through the blade and is ‘normal’ on one side but on the side with the flap the pin is in a slot that it can not slip out of, but does have play to float up and down. As you open the knife the tang pushes down against the flap and the pivot pin allows the frame to flex where one side gets higher causing an upward force on the tang the same as a traditional back spring would provide. It’s simple and practical and there are only three parts, just like a wire jack. You can see in the pics that the Imperial replaced the flap with a small piece of steel riveted to one side of the frame. It does the same job but is a better design because even spring steel can lose it form over the years and at 100 years old the Allen's blade has gotten a little sloppy.

Good looking knife Skip. You are correct, it is a G. Schrade. Unique looking scene for sure. At one time there was one for sale on the AAPK Store. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ca ... ner-knife-

Here is an inquiry that I recently made to the Newburgh New York, Historical Society.
It is regarding the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH, N.Y. and ANY information
that could be provided about the company.

"Hi. I am a former resident of New Windsor (1961-1978). I now live in Southern California.
I collect pocket knives and I am currently researching the ONLY pocket knife/cutlery company that Newburgh ever had. The business was called "Allen Cutlery Company." They were in business from 1917-1925. I don't have an exact address, but they were located on Wisner Avenue, north of Broadway. They had access to a railroad siding or spur. I am looking for ANY information that you may have regarding this business. Any pictures of Wisner Avenue during that period of time would be of GREAT help. I have managed to track down and purchase quite a few of their pocket knives. Now, I'd like to learn about the company itself. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time and stay safe."

I received this response to my inquiry, from the Newburgh New York, Historical Society.

Hello, Mr. *****,

It sounds like you have an interesting collection!

I don't find much information on Allen Cutlery Company beyond an annual city directory listing. (see attached from 1920)
The neighborhood and the era may explain some of the sketchy information.
West Newburgh was mostly farmland until the 20th century. The buildings were constructed before and after World War I, except for a couple that stood along Wisner Avenue's earlier name: Haines Cross Road. The Wisner name came from the parcelling out of the Wisner farm.

One resource I checked is old Sanborn insurance maps which show every building on each land parcel. Indeed, there is nothing on the east side of Wisner Avenue in reach of a railway siding in the detailed 1913 map. (see second attachment) The next map date, 1922, didn't map that neighborhood because there was no significant new development there. So, I cannot plot out the location of a small commercial business. The 1918, 19 and 20 directories do list Allen Cutlery at Wisner Avenue but Wisner had no street numbers at that point since it was still pretty open land. They also list Benjamin Allen as living on Oak Street - again no street number until later because Oak (part of the former Wisner farm) was also in development.

The interesting partnership with A. J. Fowler is also curious because Newburgh had just one resident listed with that name - a prominent attorney who lived and had his law practice far downtown. His full name was Anson J. Fowler, if that is, indeed, Allen's partner. Maybe he was his investor.

You also asked for old pictures of Wisner Avenue. Our archive doesn't have any from that first quarter of the 20th century.

The railroad connection is true. A west end spur of the Erie Railroad ran behind Wisner Avenue (a few hundred yards back from the roadway ) south to north to reach the Dupont Company which had been in business since 1901. Dupont Company was north of the intersection of Wisner and Dupont Avenue, streets still in the same configuration today. If I were to guess, I suspect Benjamin Allen set up shop in structure that he built or that was a former farm outbuilding. Today around that intersection of Wisner and Dupont are parking lots, warehouses and a car wash as you can see on Google Maps. I fear his interesting little knife shop is long gone unless it was a business set up in his house.

I hope this helped a bit,

This afternoon, this became the latest advertising pocket knife to join this topic or thread and my collection. It is another G. This afternoon, this advertising pocket knife became the latest addition to this topic or thread and to my collection. It is another single blade, cap lifter/bottle opener handle, all metal, 3" closed, fob/key ring pocket knife. It has a slide that unlocks the blade, open or closed and it also locks the blade, open or closed. This is my eighth fob/key ring pocket knife in this pattern or style. The other seven have ALL been previously posted under this topic or thread. There are no maker markings anywhere on this particular pocket knife. The other seven of these pocket knives ALL had "U.S.A." stamped on the handle. On this pocket knife, the "U.S.A." was either never stamped on the handle or the "U.S.A." stamp was so light, it wore off. The main handle side advertises "NEW ENGLAND ADVERTISING - SAMPLE NO. K-45 INDEX 471" The other handle side says nothing. I bought this pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company, the G Schrade Knife Company and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar pattern or style. I gave it a very minor cleaning. It is in EXCELLENT condition. I took some pictures and here it is.

This pocket knife arrived very recently and is the latest to be added to this topic or thread and to my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY CO., NEWBURGH N.Y. (1917-1925), single blade, all metal pocket knife. It measures 3 1/2" closed. It has two stamps. One stamp, the patent stamp, is on the handle. The other stamp, the maker stamp, is on the blade tang. It didn't need much cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here it is.

This morning, this became the latest pocket knife to join this topic or thread and my collection. It is a single blade, cap lifter/bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal pocket knife. I could not read the tang stamp in the seller's pictures. I just expected it to be another G. SCHRADE tang stamp. It DOES NOT have a G. SCHRADE tang stamp! It has an "ETCHED P. CO. - L.I.C.N.Y." tang stamp! All three GOINS books that I checked said the same thing, "Etched in L.I.C.N.Y. c 1933." This makes me question if the "Colonial Scene" pocket knife that I previously posted, is indeed a G. SCHRADE pocket knife (it has NO TANG STAMP). This is my seventh pocket knife in this pattern or style. This is my first pocket knife, in this pattern or style, that has this particular tang stamp and that advertises this particular event. The main side says nothing, but it has graphics. The other side says "1934 - CHICAGO" and has some graphics also. I bought this pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar pattern or style. They are ALL posted and scattered throughout this topic or thread. I cleaned it, took some pictures and here it is.

I'm posting this for posterity and for future reference.
It is a two blade "ALLEN." It is maker stamped on the handle.
The knife is NOT mine. The pictures are NOT mine.
The pictures are the seller's (ok to post per AAPK's Scott, a.k.a. knifegnome).
They have NOT been edited, altered or enhanced by me.
Caption(s), if any, are on the BOTTOM of the corresponding picture(s).

I was the culprit who bought the knife. I have several other Allen Cutlery knives in my collection and buy them when I can find them, I don't avidly look for them but when I see them I try and secure them. Unfortunately not for sale at this time. :)

Arriving very recently, I added this pocket knife from EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), to this topic or thread and to my collection. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH, N.Y., the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC. and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. It is a single blade, 2 7/8" closed, all metal pocket knife. This is my eighth pocket knife manufactured by EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY. The other seven have all been previously posted under this topic or thread and elsewhere. I gave it a minor cleaning, took some pictures and here it is.
