In this case, I agree with you. I certainly wouldn't want to trip and land face first while wearing it, that would have been bad!

Question. In your profile pic that hammer looks small is that for tinsmiithing or metal forming on a small scale?

Me too! Not sure what the original purpose was, but it works just fine for tinkering with knives.

My grandfather had a hammer like that which he used for breaking chunks of coal too large to fit into the stove. The sharp end was used to “cleave” pieces off a larger chunk. He would pick up a piece, turn it and examine to find the right place to split it, then whack it with the point. The long handle gave enough leverage to provide a hard blow. Have no idea if that was the intended purpose of the hammer, but it worked well for that. ::shrug::

I know that it is called a Cross-peen hammer, and that some of them are used by blacksmiths, but I am not sure about one this small.
I peen my knives with a cross-peen hammer with similar sized head, but mine has a shorter handle.

Yep and that's why I thought some.kinda tinsmithnor jewelry application. I have a small pall been I use that I'd also a delight to use imo
