Nice pics Scott. Not sure if your stove is a Pocket Rocket or not, but I have had one for years and it is a great piece of gear. Small, lightweight, reliable, and heats up quickly. I have a small foldable wind guard that I use with it which helps speed up the heating g process

Thank You Mike.. It is a MSR Pocket Rocket stove.. Great stove.. I too have a lightweight foldable wind screen but it was not flat enough on the rock at that time to use it.. I agree it makes cook time go alot faster..

Hey fellas! Haven't visited the thread here for a bit, thought I'd share a recent find. Was out taking care of bees yesterday and thought I saw some bones off the hill. Took a stroll down there and found this guy.
No history with this one so was surprised to see him here.
Kinda bitter sweet to have this season after my oh so close encounter with a giant earlier this season that didn't pan out.
Season still going but those old boys are getting tough to run in to with a bow and arrow this late. Be making a few moves yet this year but not many. Got a cape in the freezer and probably use it for this find. Lots of character on him.

Interesting set of Antlers . Don’t often find old buck Skulls around here . Lot of Sheds early Spring but not skulls with antlers attached still .
As you stated kind of bittersweet isn’t it . Do you all have a late season for bow? We Do here but like you said by now the big bucks are wary and hard to get any shot .

Thanks, yes we have season until Jan 15th in mo. But like you say it gets tough.
Having a hard time getting one from the couch these days.

I like your setup, John. I use hot water and dehydrated meals when camping.

I have used boiled Rappahannock River water and it was fine.

I was camping along the Rappahannock River, close to the source, and decided to try boiling the river water and using it for cooking rather than packing in water. I drank some I boiled also, it wasn't terrible.

Oh.. Never did the creek/river water thing even though I carry a Sawyer pocket filter.. New and never used though..

I have a couple of those disposable straw ones, but have never tried them either. Supposedly you can drink mud puddle walk and it will filter everything, but I hope it never comes down to that.

It’s a old Lock. There were at 1 time 11 Locks on Beaver Creek where we hiked.

I like your Fallen Ash picture, John. We had a ton of Ash trees at the farm and the bug killed pretty much all of them. The dead ones on the fence row are the worst to deal with when they fall, and most are really large. One took out our fence and the neighbor's shed. Luckily the tree was on his property, we just fixed the fence.

Thanks John.. That tree was huge.. And I guess the bugs got that one too.. The first time I hiked that trail, that tree had just fallen down.. Had to cut a path under it to get thru.. One big boy..

That’s cool.My home use to be a canal keepers home made from white washes lumber from a local barn
