What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Nice ones guys! ::tu::

My wife is dragging me off for vacation kicking and screaming..........NOT!
So I will be gone for about a week. I hope to add a few new old Schrades after vacation. We are going up by the Canadian border (Anacortes, WA area......wish I had time to cross over and see Charlie) to visit my best friend in the hospital, then down to the California border (Brookings, OR) to visit family.
Waaaay too much driving, but it should be fun! (I hope) ::shrug::
If I don't find any new old Schrades (or Camillus or any other nice old knives) I do have several nice old ones I got at the OKCA show last month. I will try to get them posted when I get back.

I have had several emails & PM from guys saying they haven't seen me much since the show. (Thanks for thinking about me). :)
Well..............I have been busy!
Lots of repairs and custom orders, family things and just the usual "life happens" stuff.

I will be back and check in here in a week.
I hope to see you all have gotten a bunch of awesome old Schrades!

Have a nice holiday, Dale.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, pass any antique stores, pawn shops, or small country hardware stores without stopping!!
Nice stockmen, Hal! And a purty UH keith.
Just in today from a friend in "Little Rhodie" (Geography quiz!!),
This Pearl Jack I believe, is a 2156. AAA pearl, a little sharpening, a few specks and small pits, but snappy and half-stoppy as new!!

thawk wrote: It has no pattern number on the back of the tang. :x It appears to be typical Delrin, kind of a dark red. No two-tone effect on the sides of the handles. The 36OT was similar, but they placed a sheepsfoot secondary on that pattern. I guess the pattern number is up for grabs. Anyone else got one of these? 3 5/16" medium stock.
Thawk, I've got one, or had one--if I still have it, it is around somewhere. If I swapped it off, my kid brother has it. I'll see if I can find it and look for a number.
Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)

Well Charlie, I stopped at most of them…… I did find a few knives.
I stopped at several antique stores, one pawnshop, an actual knife store, and so many hardware stores that I lost count!

Here is my list of knives, though not all are pertinent to this Schrade thread.
At the pawnshop I got 7 asst used Old Timers, a very nice Camillus muskrat and a Queen fixed blade.

At the knife store I got a wire jack, a Western fixed blade & a Weske fixed blade.
Weske Cutlery Co was in Sandusky, OH, c. 1946-1952 as per Goins.

In all the hardware stores I only came away with a Camillus 711Y (Yello-Jaket stockman)…………….but I did find a full floor display of 1960s (I think) Case knives!
I thought I had died and gone to Case heaven, though I was looking for Schrade heaven.
I came back after the owner returned from lunch, to inquire about the Case display, but he wouldn’t name a price….”Not for sale” he said.

In the antique stores I got one Electric Cut Co, Newark NJ, an Excelsior and a 5 blade Craftsman camper; one with a saw blade. The first I have seen with the saw blade.

I am posting pics below of the Craftsman, Electric Cut Co and the wire jack, as they are Schrade related. I will post the others in other threads.

That Electric is a nice one; I'm fond of square bolsters.
Nice haul! Are you going to show us the rest??

It looks like there was a time period when Schrade was making JKBs, Keens, D-Es, and Maher & Grosh all with Walden tangstamps, and etched blades for the various contracting companies. It would be interesting to know the history. ::shrug::

My latest e-bay find.Date is self explanatory. Some chips in the blade but I'm gradually working them out.Couple cracks in the scales but nothing serious.Spring and lock work perfectly.Letter opener blade has a weird bend in it that almost looks like it was done at the factory.Price was right:$13.65 which includes shipping. Not a good listing;only 8 views and I was 4 of them.

THIS IS A 5" SINGLE BLADE GEO.SCHRADE PRESTO AUTOMATIC KNIFE C.1930-1940.

THE KNIFE HAS NICE BRAIN GROOVED HANDLES IN BROWN AND CREAM AND HAS NO CRACKS OR CHIPS. THE BLADE IS NOT 100%, BUT IS STILL QUIT FULL. BLADE IS MARKED "PRESTO,PAT JAN.30-40, OVER MADE IN USA ON FRONT, AND, GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE.CO.INC OVER B'P'T.CONN ON THE BACK.

THE KNIFE STILL HAS ITS ORIGINAL SPRING AND FIRES NICE AND HARD,THE LOCK AND SUCH ALL WORK AS THEY SHOULD AND BLADE SEATS DEEP IN THE HANDLE.

MB, this one's 2 7/8". I had thought at first that they were similar, but once I found it I realized they were totally different patterns. Yours is more geared towards a watch fob. Mighty lucky find there! ::tu::

Here's the catalog cut for that particular one, 7606 Shackle is the model number for the pearl:
