Yeah Jerry, it does look sort of olive drab in the pic, also in person in low light...but under full illumination it is definitely grey....I dig the chameleon effect, nice bonus. ::tu::

I wish they would make one in olive drab. I would buy one. Kinda funny considering.

Found this old thread while looking for a different one but it's appropriate for this knife.

Broke my own rule today. My buddy and I stopped at Tom's Cutlery here in town, just to visit with Tom and show the Leek to him that Rob (Whitebuffalo58) put the Viet Nam Service Ribbon handles on. Tom is an old Marine so I figured he could appreciate it.

Well! All that to say this. Tom was giving me the business because I hardly ever stop by and buy something even more seldom. Yadda, yadda. Yap, yap. You're a miserable excuse for a friend, etc, etc.

Soooo. While we're jackin' our jaws, I noticed this red Kershaw Half-Ton in one of the showcases. The first time I saw one of these with the wrench shaped clip, I wanted one BUT it's made in the land that shall not be named and I have a rule against buying knives from that part of the world. Tom made me a deal and I caved. ::facepalm:: I'm so weak. ::dang::

I thought those clips were exclusively made for Snap On.....I guess I was wrong. ::facepalm::

Jerry..I've owned 2 of those...both were Snap on models...there actually not to bad. ::nod::

I don't think you're wrong JohnnieR. If I have this right, the Snap-on model is a 1440, made in Japan and called the Chubby. This one is a 1445, made in you know where and it's called the Half-Ton.

I don't know about the specs but the handles are different and the blades are different. The Chubby goes for a lot more than this Half-Ton. $35-$60 vs. $10-$15. The one thing they share is the wrench clip.

Keeping in mind, I've only had the knife eight hours...

Feels solid in the hand. Smooth operation. Locks up tight. Kershaw sharp.

Small and a bit awkward to handle. I'm not a thumb-stud kind of guy so opening is an issue for me. The clip, while uber cool, is irritating to the hand.

From my personal standpoint, I would not carry this knife. It's just a looker and to bulk up the accumulation as it expands the Kershaw pile.

Talking as in the "past" tense Mr. Rotten.........Seems to me, maybe one of those ended up with me in a ROTTEN BOMB I received not long ago.......

Mr Rotten;she's kinda akward but she flicks out with very little thumb effort, not an EDC she will reside in the visor pocket of the Grand Prix where I can see the clip

I just posted this one over in the New Pick Ups also, but I gotta throw it in here too! I've been eyeballin' one of these Whirlwinds for a long time now, but didn't want to pay full price for a new one....well low and behold our good friend Scott Triple F just happened to have this beauty pop up on his ebay page, slightly used but still solid as a rock...and I was the only bidder! Lucky me, I thought for sure someone was going to bid this one up, but I slipped through and got it for a great deal. I cleaned it up a little and put her to the stone, and now she's sharp as can be and ready for action! So far I am loving it. (Only had it for about an hour or so, but hey, first impressions are important! )
Kinda reminds me of a big brother to a Scallion, with the circle cut outs on the blade...nice pocket clip too, slides on and off real smooth. ::tu::

I was asked by a family member to sharpen a Kershaw Volt II knife for them. I was very impressed that the knife took such a fine edge and was very easy to sharpen. I've EDC it for over a week, using it pretty hard and it holds it's edge well. It has the assisted opening blade made from 8Cr13MoV steel, which is why I was so surprised, it's a China made steel. The one handed opening is helpful at times. I liked the knife enough that I found an American knife company that makes a knife something similar to it and ordered one, the Buck Vantage Pro. I've always been more of a traditional knife lover but I can find room for some EDC use of a semi tak-too-kool knife. I like the Kershaw and I do not want or mean to offend anyone but I just can't bring myself to buy a knife with the big "C" word etched on it. It's not about the quality of the knife, it's other reasons I can't do it. ::facepalm:: I don't want to turn this thread into a political thread so I'll stop here and say the Kershaws are surprising.
As my 72 pattern lovin friend says.......I'm shuttin' up here now Boss.

While I have a bunch of the flippers/SpeedSafe like the Leek composite, 3 Skyline's (black, blue, brown), Zing, Speedform II, my favorite Kershaw's are the semi-traditional Double Duty and Double Cross:

Especially this one with the 'damascus' style blades:

How are the fit & finish on those, Zippo? I've been thinking I need one as shown in the last pic.
