18 degrees, wind chill calculation, says it feels like 9 degrees. Enough of this, even if we do live in northwest Florida we need to get back to global warming ::nod:: !

I think we're supposed to get all the way up to 8° today! We still have snow and ice in the roads tool schools and everything else are closed for the second day in a row. It's supposed to get barely above freezing tomorrow though!

I don't have an outside thermometer but I can tell it is cold when I walk to the garage from my back door(about 40 ft.)and my nostril hairs freeze before I get there.I started my wife's car for the first time in a couple days and listened to some very interesting(and hopefully not expensive)noises coming from the engine bay.My lawn tractor/plow still refuses to start although I can now turn the formerly frozen ignition key.I am going to put a trouble light with a 60w bulb under the hood for awhile in the hope it will warm the oil and the battery. I have to drive her to the doctor's this noon for a follow up visit but all should be well.

Is anyone still buying that wobal glorming nonsense?

If adding CO2 to the atmosphere makes it warmer, then perhaps we should PAY folks to emit CO2 instead of fining them!
After all, how much food can you grow in frozen tundra? ::shrug::

Perhaps someone should pummel Al Gore with an organic carrot stick until he is a blithering idiot!

Ray -- That's how you can tell it's below zero without looking at the thermometer. (the nose hair thing)

Did I ever relate this story that I heard about the old saying'" It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!" ? Kind of interesting if true(which I am sure it is).

Anyway as the story goes back in the days of sailing ships the cannon balls were stored on racks next to the cannon that were called monkeys. They were originally made of cast iron but due to the slat air corroding the iron monkeys and the cannon balls together they started to make them from brass and hence were known as brass monkeys.
It was observed that on extremely cold days the racks would contract enough to allow the cannon balls to fall off and that was how the term originated.

27 deg with 20 to 25mph winds, the snow is slowly disappearing (being blown into Nebraska). Here's a shot of the sunrise yesterday.

What can I say? It's still winter. It sucks but there's always some good news, baseball spring training games start in six weeks.

We had a front come through Monday and dropped 1 1/4" of rain, then a couple of days of windy weather with the highs in the low 60s. This morning it is 27 degrees ::shrug:: . with frost. The Florida panhandle winter continues...
