I bet it was useful. Me, I'm still looking for old Sears & Roebuck catalogues. I always save the knife section for last.

Hard Hat USA (Bear and Son for a promo products company in KY) 5' lockback (same as Bear and Son #97R). Doesn't look to have been used much, and a Buck 110 nylon sheath that fits it well was included.

I suspect Hard Hat fairly recently closed up shop (and Google Maps lists them as "Permanently Closed"). I had previously emailed them late last year about finding a distributor I could order from, and never got a response. The web address is a dead link now, even though it wasn't a month ago.

Google Maps still shows signage on the building (with Street View date of last year) , so the closure was apparently not that long ago.

Ka-Bar Hawkbill, 1950s-ish going by the stamp and the fact it's got bone handles.

In pretty darn good shape. Going in the display case alongside my other old hawkbills.

Rosecraft Blades Clinch River Jack.

Corn Creek Cutlery is the seller for the brand here also.

This is my first from the brand, after ogling them for over a year. I honestly can't find a single problem with it--great snap, smooth action, extremely sharp, and perfectly centered. Beaver Creek Barlow when the budget allows (next month's is primarily shipping to warranty some stuff).

Definitely carrying this one quite a bit. Should also be easier to sharpen than my old hawkbills.

Victorinox "Pocket Pal", 84mm.

I have this one in Alox, but A: don't use it much due to it being dead mint, and b; it's a little slim. This one is just enough thicker to be comfortable.

Schrade USA ST-2 Tough Chip.

The lock no longer works, and the slotted screwdriver and bottle opener are both broken. However, you can still buy most of these parts, as well as complete handles with tools for like a couple of bucks. Probably going that route.

Schrade USA 3OT "Bearhead".

My favorite small Schrade, another (in worse shape) is often on me around the house. This one will be replacing that example, as my existing one has some play in the blade.

IXL George Wostenholm, probably over a century old.

No snap, one blade broken, other can't be deployed. Pretty much normal for all my oldest.

Sharp (Colonial) 380 Medium Stockman. Currently, my first US-made Sharp. Pretty sure that these were SS, while the Colonial brethren were 1075.

Dull, dead. Gross even.

I got my box from Thomasg today. First thing I did was to sanitize, pasteurize, homogenize, and otherwise the box before I opened it. After I did open it I discovered a really nice assortment of EDC knives, rebuilders, and parts knives as shown below. I am claiming the title of "Best Box Received" in the 2024 POS Exchange.

I hereby nominate KLJ77 for POS 2024 MVP

The alleged box of refuse showed up yesterday. It was clean, well packed, shipped priority, came with poetry...and it smelled nice? Must be the Eagle tears.

The pile of poo was really an interesting group of old knives with more interesting history and project potential than bad smell or leakage. Only 4 real stinkers.
The Colonial with sawcut black delrin is going into my daily rotation. Did Ken know I'm a Colonial fan? Probably, but that i was just thinking to myself that this particular model is what i wanted?...get out of my head Ken!

The "win" inside which was mentioned in the poem was a pair of Case canoes, a big and a little. They're fantastic, and even the case they came in is nicer than most of what I sent to Thomas....

The bone handled pen is an Empire and it shipped packed in with the rest of gen pop. It's real cool.

I opened the box with my boys and they had a good time too. I told them each to pick out their favorite. They chose: the yellow usa tipped bolster, the leather sheath(

), and my little guy picked the bigger Case. My oldest asked if he could help "clean the rust off" the yellow knife he chose. Im knocking the edge off and putting him to work on it today. Sheath guy is "packing it for an adventure" as we speak, and some day I'll give that Case to my littlest one, mark my words, but Daddy is gonna keep it for a while

I have a special affinity for big and little combos of things, knives included. Again, did our buddy Ken know this? Or lucky guess? Either way its incredibly thoughtful and Im honored to own the previous possessions of such an esteemed member of this knife community.

The knives were great, but of course the prize here is the literature. Its top notch. Its emblematic of the time, thought, and effort that Ken put into this. He's a generous man with a vibrant spirit.

I'm so very happy that you and your young boys enjoyed the mystery box. I can imagine the joy, and the excited "oh, look at that one" pleasure that only a young man can convey. I thoroughly enjoyed putting this box together for you, and the poem and COA added a touch of humor to enhance the overall package. I am elated that your boys were provided the opportunity to pick and choose a knife of their desire. You're a GREAT father to encourage them to be involved and to learn from you. Great memories that will last a lifetime.

The writeup you posted is very nice, and I Thank You for giving me accolades. I did not know of your likes when I picked and chose the knives I sent, so I'm glad my intuition was somewhat spot on. Most of these knives were kept in a folding knife case and were never used by me. The Case pair I've had since 2019, but I was not overly attached to them, albeit, they are very nice knives. One of them is a 2000 year make, I believe. Anyway...I'm happy that you like them and that they're now in the possession of someone who can and will enjoy them for what they are.

Well the the box arrived today from bladebuddy and to my surprise there was no smell!

and I found it filled with some very pocketable knives. Several Imperials, and all pretty useful. The Swiss army knife even had the tweezers and tooth pick.

But the best was yet to come. First a little black handled Imperial jacknife. And then a wonderful Empire jack knife, blades a little worn but oh those bones!!!

The last knife was the best of all. A beautful stag handled old jacknife with a really unusual main blade. I had a hard time seeing the tang stamp but finally with the help of a magnifier I could read it. NASH Hardware Co, Fort Worth . I couldn't believe my eyes. Nash Hardware started in the 1870's and ran into the 1960's I believe. Wow, not a POS but a wonderful bundle of local Texas history! Thank you so much Steve.
