The covers are from a piece of driftwood found washed up from the Atlantic ocean, don't know what species. Was air dried for a few years then stabilized. Each piece of the wood is different, absolutely beautiful. I will post some photos later, bit busy at the moment. Glad you like it, thought of you when i pulled it out.

This is the 3rd from a recent batch I received and it's a VERY odd little knife! Until Quick Steel told me what it's used for I had no idea where it would be used. It's a 5 1/8" oal "Kiridashi" slicer/SS slanted blade, and an all brass sheath. Barely weighs .08 oz.'s, but man did it come sharp. The walk n' talk is a simple pull-apart, and I guess the fit n' finish is well done. It's hard to really say because I have nothing to compare it with. I've been watching this kind of knife for awhile now, and from the pictures on the website I got it from it looks much bigger and thicker. It's all of 1/16" thick! My curiosity got the better of me and I ordered one, and it's definitely destined for the "Unusual" pile! Garry(Quick Steel)told me it's used to cut bamboo and sometimes in woodworking, and after learning this I think the knife is perfectly suited for that sort of work!

This recently acquired Weidmannsheil is providing today's comfort for me! It's a 7 3/4" oal single-blade lockback canoe/SS spear-point blade with n/n, NS bolsters and boar's head shield, brass liners and pins, and beautiful genuine stag covers. Weighs-in at a respectable 5 oz.'s, and came to me professionally sharpened. Has a comfortable smooth walk along with a loud snap when it talks. The fit n' finish is beyond reproach. When I spotted this knife in Mark's store(Sharpnshinyknives)I immediately bought it, and it didn't disappoint, except for the 1/8" step-down between the spine and tang when it's open. Had they used a wider blade I believe this glitch would have been overcome. Oh well, I still love my new canoe!

This is another I recently received from Mark at SSk, and it and it's brother are comforting me today! It's a 7" oal Marbles lockback/SS spear-point blade with n/n, fully engraved NS bolsters and pins, brass liners, and dark horn covers displaying white streaking. It has a weight of about 2.5 oz.'s, and arrived very sharp. Has a comfortable walk n' talk, along with an excellent fit n' finish. Built in Japan by the late Tak Fukutu. I purchased this knife's brother last year from Mark, but it doesn't show nearly as pronounced streaking as this one, that and the fact I wanted to own the set of 2 prompted me to buy this one as well. Last picture is to compare the 2!

This is a new gently used knife that I recently won in an ebay auction, and my high bid makes me feel like I stole it, US$26.! It's an 8 3/4" oal Parker "Big Lou" gunstock slip-joint/SS spear-point blade with n/n, NS bolsters, brass liners and pins, and cream colored bone covers. Nice weight of about 6 oz.'s, and arrived sharp. Smooth walk n' snappy talk, along with excellent fit n' finish. Built in Japan. I'd been looking for a bigger knife with a gunstock frame and only 1 blade for quite sometime with no luck, so when I saw this one up for auction I jumped right in, even though I rarely participate in auctions since I find them too stressful. Although I virtually got this for a song, I'd have paid-up had it been necessary because this is the 1st copy I've seen with the features I wanted. I like this knife, a lot!

This is the last from a recent acquisition, and it's a snappy little auto that's bringing me great comfort! It's an 8 3/4" oal AKC "X-treme" side opening auto/AUS-8 dagger blade, 2-piece liner-less aluminum body, adjustable pivot, coil-spring fired, BO/BC, and pocket-clip. Fairly light at about 4 oz.'s, and came with only the bottom edge sharpened. Fires fast n' hard and closes smoothly at the push of a button. Fit n' finish is typical AKC excellent. This is one of those models that I've admired a long time, but couldn't find a seller who would ship it to me in Canada, but I finally did. Out of the box it fired very well, but after I applied a drop of Q.R. oil, WOW, it snaps open with ultimate authority! An absolute perfect knife for EDC!

Aww, that's a shame Sam. I checked AIKW and Perry Knife Works, but both were out of stock. I did see them at Grindworx, but they only had 4 styles in stock. They were also in stock at 3knives.com, including the black/satin model you're looking for, E67.50 or US$75. plus shipping, which would be a bit more than Grindworx. Grindworx has a silver with ALL black blade(not 2-tone black)that looked pretty good for $65. plus shipping. Had I not been able to get mine in black/satin I'd have opted for that one, but possibly with a satin blade, which wasn't available. Maybe you'll get your Christmas present early if Grindworx gets them back in stock before then. I'd gladly tell you where I got mine but I don't know because it came from a buddy in the US who knew I was looking for one so he bought it removed the blade and sent it to me in 2 packages so I didn't lose it to Customs. Good luck buddy!

Good for you Sam! I've had that Launch model on my Watchlist forever and will definitely get one eventually. What color did you get, charcoal? They are so similar to the Pro-Tech Don models and were designed by Matt Diskin who makes some pretty nice autos. You've been a very responsible parent for a long time now, nothing wrong with treating yourself now and then! Congratulations! P.S.-It's a good thing I know exactly what your new knife looks like otherwise I'd be asking you for pictures, and I know you're not set-up for that!
