A mid-morning greeting from Starvation Plantation.
Just finished my coffee and a breakfast bar, got to get to work dressing a buck that had a collision with a .243 this morning.
Had 2 does with 4 little ones in the food plot for about 30 minutes this morning. They got real nervous and started to leave looking at something I couldn't see. They stopped and looked again as the buck came into my field of vision. Bang!

My neighbors paid to have 2 beautiful Silver Maples cut down.

I almost can't watch. They're 40 to 50 feet tall, probably about 120 years old.

Im so sad.


I used to get to look at the beautiful trees out my window everyday. Now I have a better view of their house. Great. We chose this neighborhood in part because of the old growth trees. The ash trees got clear cut a while ago due to the emerald ash borer. But to elect to remove these....its egregious.

Enjoying one of God's most beautiful critters year 'round is real blessing to us. We love to watch them all through the year, visually and by trail camera, enjoy still doing a bit of farming for them, plantings of supplemental green stuff and managing some natural forage with controlled burns most years. The rewards are many and the end product is very healthy protein.

Always good things on this thread! Scott and the camp out, Ike's turkeys and now bighomer's bucks! The buck in the back ground of the bighomer's 1st picture is a real heavy antlered deer, the boys that hunt "horns" would say he's the one!

I haven't seen any antlers since my last post in this thread. We do have some feisty little fellers starting to feel their oats. We have does still feeding fawns. Been seeing enough deer most hunts to make it interesting. This evening there were a total of 10 coming and going and two big does feeding on the green plot when I got down out of the shooting house.

I have to give my dil the credit for them. She's is a fine photographer as well as being a fine artist with a paint brush. She's got some fine equipment but I'm not sure these weren't taken with her phone.

My wife paints also. It's amazing to see a blank canvas become a piece of art.

My post from last Thursday on this thread showed a big buck that showed up after the season closed last February. Well guess what? I got a new picture of him about the same time I posted the old picture Thursday evening. He made it through for another season, this time I'll be looking for him. Last time I didn't know he even existed. He didn't get this big being dumb and chasing does through the food plot. Several other interesting bucks were also captured by the game camera in that location:

These old fellers showed up a little while ago, stayed around for about hour. I think the last bunch I'd seen was back in early October. These young Jake's came right down to the house.

Sure enjoyed browsing this page of pictures and stories. Phil, thats a nice healthy buck down and then that big brute on camera - next season will be fun for sure. Scott, those boys have GROWN - good to see you still faithfully trying to teach and guide them! Nice turkey and deer photos gents and I too would be sick over the silver maples. I wrapped my deer season up on the 26th, got another mangy coyote with a 44 MAG levergun and later that afternoon bagged the biggest doe I have ever shot (got her with my Ruger 270 WIN, she weighed 144 lbs.). Looking forward to a bagging a few ducks in January and going out squirrel hunting a time or two as well. OH
