Excellent! You know that Ithaca 37's are my hands down favorite of all shotguns! Your brothers have good tastes, as do you with those model 12's! That refinish looks real good too. I have a couple Ithacas that I'm going to redo this summer. I'm still wavering on what exactly to use. Herter's French Red grain filler makes the stocks look real nice, a friend from New York uses it on his. It gives that wonderful Winchester pre 64 red color to the stock. Truoil on top of that is nice.

Then I thought of using truoil and rotten stone to fill the grain and then truoil over top of that. Of course you could use a couple coats of truoil ans then several of blo too. I haven't decided.


But you did an excellent job on an excellent shot gun. What gauge and chokes it?

Jerry, I never bought a 357 SIG because I own a 40 S&W (not against the SIG round but it seemed redundant - and I didn't want to add dies, brass, etc., for another too similar round). The NC Highway Patrol adopted the .357 SIG and then quickly dropped it - even became a controversy when it happened - a former commander of the patrol is an acquaintance - I'll try to find out if it was a political issue or a performance issue for you.

Wade, thanks for the compliments on my refinish work - I've used a lot of different refinishing techniques over time and find a little stain after sanding followed by as many coats of Tru-Oil as it takes (4/0 steel wool between coats) works as good as any. I do have a pint of Chestnut Ridge stain that works wonders on old M-1 Garands, 03 Springfield's, etc. but is too dark for guns like the M37 (IMO). This Ithaca M37 is a 1972 vintage 12 gauge with 26" barrel and IMP choke - my brother Mike was a lefty and he loved having the Ithaca as it's a lefty friendly design. My son has one in 20 gauge that belonged to his Great-Grandfather (pre-war bird gun) - it was refinished once in the 1960's so I might refinish that one too if my son wants me to.

Awesome. It has here were always considered first and fore mostly bird guns. My middle boy is a lefty, he's what got me into collecting them.

I have a 1974 12 gauge 26 inch VR imp cyl. It's an awesome rabbit gun for hunting those thick CRP lands.

On a not you'll appreciate, I have a pre war 16 gauge with a poly-choke on layaway right now. I can't wait to get it home.

I can't help myself. I just have to show off a recent acquisition, a Sig P227. I haven't made it out to run a few rounds thru it but will soon.

Just bought a Henry Frontier 22 from the local gun shop. Haven't had the opprotunity to shoot it yet. My wife went with me to buy it and then bought me a lifetime shooting range membership, plus a box of 222 Winchester ammo! ftd

........I bought one of the std. .22's like yours last year, and I can find no fault with it.....great gun and 100% U.S.A. made!!!................. .........................

Fine looking little Henry! I traded for a new one a couple years ago at my lgs. I didn't have it long as the trading bug got the best of me, but while I did have it it was flawless and shot a lot better than I could.

Here's a little trivia. Back in the 70's Ithaca gun company imported and sold a lever action repeater .22 made by Erma that they called the model 72. Several years ago the son of the man who designed the original bought the rights to it and began manufacturing I there in the states as the Henry. So it is a proven design that has been around for a while now. I'm sure yours will be a real little shooter just like every other one I've ever known of.

Thanks for the reply BH! I looked at the ballastics of course, not a .357 revolver round (I have a Colt Python) but certainly more zip than a 9mm. I have the SIG 2340 .40 cal I am very happy with. Only 10+ but thats why the make extra magazines. I am a precision shooter so 10+ is fine for me. I do however like the sound of 15+ though. The SIG P226 MK-25 Navy Seals issue I have is 15+ and I love that gun. Thanks for the endorsement on the P226, if I pick up another .40, I will check that one out.

Pretty SIG Ray! I have been strongly considering the SIG .45 as my next pickup. I have the GLOCK 21 .45 with 6 factory clips and the GLOCK Rail Light. Serves it's purpose as a "trench gun" for me. Just not a huge fan of the striker versus the hammer now that I own both. Nor am I personaly a fan or DAO or SAO firearms. Thanks for posting it, a real beauty.

Nice Henry ferg! Congrats. I picked one up last year and threw an unused MIB Bushnell from the 60's on it. Extremely accurate. You will really like that gun. And USA made as Carrmillus said.

Man, all this gun talk is making my trigger finger itch. May just have to hop in the UTV and make the 5 min trip out to the "desert range".

Here is the SIG PRO 2340 I mentioned. Currently with .40 cal. Swiss made polymer frame. I keep a spare clip with #11 Birdshot rounds loaded as the first 2 for small tasks around the house.

Hard to tell but is that eye relief comfortable/adequate for you? Just wondering if access to the charging handle had anything to do with scope placement and eye relief?

The reason I ask is that on my AR-10 .308, I have a real long scope. Much more effort is required to charge it versus my AR-15. Very difficult to work the charging handle with the scope attached.

I have an extender on order that they make just for this purpose. I does extend the width of the charging handle for access on scope mounted AR platforms. They run about 15 or 20 bucks.

Hey Jerry, Leupold makes this model with around a 4 inch eye relief, so it's perfect for the AR platform. It's appropriately named the "Mark AR". I got the 3-9 power with mil-dot reticle.
I'm kind of ham handed, so sometimes I still hit the scope when I'm reaching for the charging handle. Probably will get the charging handle extension eventually.
Took it to the range today, and right out of the box, with factory ammo, it shoots 1 1/4 MOA groups.
I was using 115 grain FUSION, and 120 grain Hornady SST. I can't wait to see how she will do with some hand loads using Sierra 130 grain Game Kings, and AA2200 powder. (oughta be a BLAST)

I picked up a Nikon P 223 4-12x40 scope last month for my AR. I took it to the range and got it sighted in at 100 yds. There's a range up in Conroe that goes out to 300 yds......I guess I need to drive up there next and see how the BDC 600 reticle works out past 100 yds.

On a different note, I took the Citori out for a round of Sporting Clays yesterday, and shot 42 out of 56 (75%), my best ever. Then my buddy took me out to eat fried catfish at Vernon's Kuntry Katfish - and he paid for lunch! LOL - now that's what I call a good day.

very cool stuff RBD! You really have my interest peaked on the caliber as an inbetween of my 5.56/.223 and .308.

I'll let you know when I get my charging handle extension. It is a must on my .308. I thought about attaching a small "pull lanyard" but when I saw the extensions, it was a no brainer. I actually was having to reach under the buffer tube with forked fingers to charge the .308. Due to the effort to charge the .308 versus the AR-15, quite the pain in the ass.

Eye relief is perfect but the scope extends about 3" past the charging handle and not much clearance in between, as you can see in the pics below. Really like the gun and scope combo but access to the charging handle was more than annoying.

Unk, that sounds like a FANTASTIC day! I am hearing a lot of good feedback on the Nikon scopes. Very crisp image from what I've seen.
Jerry that's a good looking setup on the .308. You're right, you definitely need an extension on that charging handle. There are some folks out there now modifying AR-15 and AR-10 uppers to a side charger, like the old FN/FAL. I always liked the idea of a left side charger with right hand case ejection.

Your bipods appear to be made by HARRIS. How did you mount them to your AR? They usually attach to a sling swivel stud. Thanks!

Hey RBD,

Correct Harris. All you need is Harris Bipod Adapter #5. You just pull the fore end off and it has a small metal plate you mounted inside and the swivel stud attaches to that. 3 minute install. Adapter runs about 12 bucks and comes with a sling mount if you don't go the bipod route.

Only drawback is that it does not leave alot of room for offhand shooting but considering the weight and intended range of this gun, probably won't shoot offhand often. My hand does fit in there though.
