Caught these critters sneakin across the pasture yesterday about 0530. 4 young cows and a young bull.
To those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected ones will never know.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
thank you Tony, I spend a lot of time outdoors and almost always have my phone and/or a camera with me. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel, great photo opportunities abound here on Oak Island!Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 2:44 amSuperbly outstanding scenery and photos Tom!! yes sir, it’s the reason why it’s so grainy, I was a thinking man’s distance away when I spotted it and never approached; snapped a pic and left.

Thanks, John, Floyd, and Philip.
Yeah, TF, I've been seeing a few velvet antlers around. There was a slight depression in that field where this one was standing, so only his head was visible. It was a decent size, though it may not have been apparent. Just curious, with your rut being much later in L.A.
than here in the Midwest, when do they shed and get new growth?

Great pics Ike

That Buck in velvet with his head just above the wheat is an awesome shot! We don’t have wheat fields here so it’s something we would not see normally.
Thanks for posting them.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Here’s a few pics from the Chippewa flowage area north of Couderay about 20 miles . The eagle population has grown a bit over the years and we see multiple birds every trip out . They’ve got used to us silly fishermen and watch and wait for easy meals . We trolled a shoreline and went under this one . Watched us cast our top water lures and reel them in . Was rather entertaining watching them ,they perch in dead trees for better visibility and nest in tall pine trees . The line in the second pic is fishing line ,that Eagle sure was watching closely.
Posited a few of these in FCD the other day so may be some repetition for a few of you.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Zed,
Looks to be a great knife!

Your camping trip pictures are always interesting to see. In the 4th and 5th picture there is a tree with a big scar on it's trunk that reminds me of what was once called a "cat face" here in Florida. The "cat face" was the result of the process to remove pine sap/tar from the trees for making turpentine and other products from the Long leaf pine trees. The procedure was once referred to as Naval Stores, that had to do with the tar used to seal the wooden ships hulls, a waterproofing.
The pictures just reminded me of what was once common in old Florida.
