Nice Blue! I built a 1911A1 on one of the old Crown City frames back in the early 1980's - all the other parts were straight GI. It functioned fair, but not 100% so I had Charlie Lauer (The Peru Gunsmith) tune it for me - he had retired to Sneads Ferry NC after a career in the Marine Corps - he had built many of the Marine Corps competition guns in Quantico during the last years of this career and man could he set up a 1911. He tuned my M1 Garand about 15 years ago, but has now passed on. Hope you enjoy your 1911 - I've always liked them as much as any handgun I've owned. OH

I agree with you all on the 1911 pistol.
My first one was made by Springfield and functioned excellent. I did a few upgrades to it.....
Trigger job and combat sights.

Still enjoy the feel of a 1911 and own a few in .22 cal

Blue, where did you get the frame? I am in the process of building one myself. I was wanting to find an original Colt 1911a1 frame, but the ones I have found cost as much as a handgun.

I got the frame from Sarco (http://www.e-sarco.com). It's a Rock Island. I have been wanting to go with a Caspian frame, but they are getting harder to find, and are more expensive ($189). The Rock Island was around $130. I got the Colt slide from Gunbroker for $150. I also bought an internal parts kit from Sarco for $135. So far I'm in for about $425. The parkerizing on the frame and slide don't match perfectly, so I'll probably redo the finish on both.
I got lucky and the slide fits the frame really well. Just a little slop, but that's the G.I. feel I'm going for.
I'm not gonna shoot this one much because the old 1943 Colt slide is only hardened at the front and at the slide release notch. I wanted to make a WW2/Korea/Vietnam/El Salvador tribute gun, so I'm trying to make it look as authentic as possible without dropping $2,000 for an original.

<edit> OH, I forgot to mention I have an old marine armorer advising me on this build too. His first bit of advice to me was "ditch that old Colt slide and get a modern one - they're made of hardened steel!". But of course I am hard headed and have to do it my way. He is still going to let me borrow his fixtures and his staking tools for the grip screw inserts and plunger tube staking tool.

Tried out the peep sights on my vintage Mossberg .22 rifle,
15 yards out and twenty rounds.
Two low and 13 grouped nice, another 5 in small group.
Not bad for my eyes.....

Woo hoo! This afternoon I scored at the Glasgow, Kentucky Walmart of all places. Normally the hoarders take just about everything by 8:00 Wed morning. But this afternoon they had three boxes of CCI .22CB shorts.

I took them all. My 1936 Marlin model 80 likes them pretty good anyway. It's a 7 shot detachable mag fed .22 that'll feed all three types of .22 flawlessly from the same mag. And with that long ol barrel it's nice and worst too. Best little .22 I ever had.

Ask and ye shall receive. I've thought about stripping it and redoing the stock, but I just can't make myself destroy all that purty patina. I really dig the old finger groove stock too.

Excuse the poor photos. I had to use the phone and the Victorinox Farmer to position the rifle right.

Is like to see that Mossberg if yours too. I've never had one, but dad tells me of an old Mossberg he had that was a real tack driver.

But you know, just about ever old .22 I've ever known of from the 30's and 40's was a real shooter provided it wasn't shot out. Some were prettier than others, but they'd all shoot. I guess gun makers and buyers had different priorities back then. Now they're all gussied up, even the cheap ones. Whether they shoot or not is a different matter.

Thanks!

It's a 1936 Marlin model 80, 7 shot detachable mag, 24 inch barrel. It shoots .22 short, long, long rifle. It'll feed all three out of the same mag.

I bought it at my local lgs for a whopping $110. Black birds at 50 yards are DRT.

I don't think it's a scale model of a U.S. Rifle! :)

Edit:Checked out some reference material, may be a Gewehr 43, German WWII rifle ::shrug:: .
