I did it again! ::doh::
Yesterday I took Cheryl to our niece's hair saloon to get her hair cut. I went a few doors down to a convivence store for a cup of coffee and low and behold I came back with the coffee and a new knife.
This is a brand called TRUE and appears to be designed and owned by Alliance Sports Group in Fort Worth, TX. I'm sure it is made somewhere other than the U.S. It comes in a wooden box with magnetic closure. The knife is called a "Gentleman's" knife with a carbon steel blade and a wood and stainless handle. The blade was not very sharp so I will have to improve on that.

The design looks to have been inspired by some Japanese designs to me. It has a nice sweeping grace to it.

Today we went to the local antique mall for a little side trip. Found the old razor hone and thought it would be worth the $8 they were asking. The owner has sold me several knives over the last 10 years or so. He poured out a bag of used pocket knives on the counter. One caught my eye, a Western 742, the rest looked like junk. He asked what I'd give for the pile? I kinda' shrugged my shoulders and wrinkled my nose, then he laid out 4 fixed blades and 2 old bayonets. I saw the Western F66 and the Pal RH35 USN MARK 1 and it was time to make a deal. :)
Intended to buy only this hone

This one caught my eye and things got out of hand!

Came home with all this

There are 17 knives, the big Western pocket knife is the only one I really wanted. ::facepalm::

Picked up the pick lock today it's my first one. I'm trying to identify it and possibly figure out the age.

Knife measurements : 13 inches full knife Blade 6 inches

Mark on Blade : Super Extra Italy with Spade symbol inside a diamond shape.

Not sure the value of the knife....may have over paid. The knife came in a lot of switch blades.

New guy here, but I have always loved the thrill of “the hunt” (or maybe “the find” :D ) and the restoration from my days collecting old fountain pens. Pocket knives have given me a new collecting focus, which is fun. I’m no pro at restoration, but have been reading up in AAPK & online & think I’m picking up the basics. This is my first post other than “intro” & I enjoy looking through what others have found in the wild, so I’m excited to share the story.

Took my wife out on just before New Year’s to look for vintage mercury glass tree toppers (and of course, kept my eyes open for knives & pens). We found some good deals and one tree topper, so we were successful. Saw a few knives here & there (slim pickings), but I did find one keeper & picked it up for a good price. Lady that ran the shop said the knife was from a friend of hers who said her Dad carried it for years.

1977 Case 6292 Large Texas Jack in brown bone.

Main blade & pen blade had some light surface rust & other residue in them, but were in good shape & I figured I could tackle them. Good snap & very little wear. Could not see the imprint well at the time, & originally thought it might have been from 1960’s (no date stamps), but after cleaning could see the 3 x’s & figured it out. Pen blade pull was REALLY hard to open & loosened up a bit after cleaning & lube, but it’s still quite the effort to open. Main blade opens easily & good snap open and closed.

Not a museum piece & want to make it a user, so I went after it to clean it up. Interior was pretty clean so most of the work was flushing out any dirt & gummy oil, and then working on the blades. Still need to do a final, careful polish of the blades, but for initial cleaning I used vinegar, some super fine grit sandpaper, ultra fine grit impregnated rubber “rust removal” erasers, #2 pencil, and metal polish by hand. On the whole, I think it cleaned up well & I’ll finish polishing the blades back to mirror surface (or as close as I can get) while still on vacation this week.

Happy New Year everyone, & good luck with your “finds” in 2022!

Knife finds from an antique auction yesterday. Case XX USA 6249, Rem.scout, Robt Klass gents knife, Cam. 1978 year military folder, unused, a Duluth School Police Imperial, circa 1954, that the school used to give out to street crossing guards unused in the original box, and a neat little pearl handled pistol marked Austria on the barrel. Yes it fires, no, not with real bullets. I have no idea what to call this, a trinket, a toy, a miniature, etc. Also, I picked up the Remington gents lockback. Do any of you know who's making these now. ____Dave

Dave,
I think the little pistol is called a pin fire. I have seen ammo for them but likely not readily available.

Very cool acquisitions Dave! I really like the Imperial (awesome condition) and the two bone folders (Rem & Case). I’m a sucker for jigged bone handled knives.

The miniature gun is neat. I think this is similar (pic - Austrian pinfire) & seems to fire a 2mm cap. Possibly dates from the 1950’s. Looking into these miniature pinfire guns sent me down a whole rabbit trail around the history of these; apparently there was a whole industry around these in the early 1900’s (worn as a watch fob or pendant) & some even seemed to have fired a tiny projectile! Learn something new every day. Thanks for posting!
