Those are some nice RR's and I don't think I would work on those either Nev. I might suggest going to a pawn shop and seeing if they have a bucket of $5 knives you can practice on, that's what I've done in the past.

Good Idea David. ::tu:: No pawn shops here. I live in a very small town. But I am going to my Son's next Friday I think there is one in his town. I will check it out. Maybe I will find some keepers. ::nod:: :D ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Wow, Rough Ride has really stepped up their game! ::tu:: Those are 3 very nice folders Nev, congratulations! ::handshake:: I have admired the Black Widow with the wharnie blade for some time now but haven't pulled the trigger, every time I go to buy one I see something I want even more so it keeps getting bumped. Would you tell us some more about the model in the middle, that's one I haven't seen before? Thx! 8)

Marco,
The knife in the middle is a model RR1578 . It is a liner lock. 4 inches long. The only thing it is a little hard to open with my thumb. It feels like it has a magnet in the handle holding it closed. I am not really sure about that. I really like the look . The best thing is SMKW had it on sale for $9.99. Hey what's not to like about that. I might buy another to give to my son.

Wow, thanks Nev! ::handshake:: That magnet you feel is just a very strong back-spring and I know just how annoying those are! :x It sure is a fine looking knife, ::nod:: and at that price you could lose it and not even feel bad! Thx again! 8)

Well, I haven't been fortunate enough to find any stashed away knives I've forgotten about, but I did recently win a monthly Microsoft contest that paid me $1,500.! I honestly don't know who the lucky one is! Nice score Nev, must have been quite the rush! 8)

Ha, ha, ha! ::clapping:: Other than 9 knives that are currently siting in Customs Nev I'm going to slow down on my purchases, firstly because of lack of funds, and secondly I'm running out of room to display them! My laptop is on it's last legs so I bought a brand new one, and that pretty much wiped out the $1,500. The prize is given out as a $1,500. pre-paid Visa card and I certainly didn't need a laptop that expensive, but I read some VERY bad reviews about the company that handles the prizes for Microsoft, and they said things like, "I can't validate my card so it can't be used", "I used it once and then it wouldn't accept any more purchases", "I have a problem with my card but I can't get ahold of Customer Service", etc.. So I was pretty leery about the whole deal at that point so when I experimented attempting to buy the laptop and the card was accepted I just went ahead and finalized the purchase. I do have a brand new 17.3" laptop though, which I'm totally pleased with, not to mention enough knives!(For now!!!) 8)

I received this "cute" little Rough Rider stiletto today and I have to say, out of the over 300 knives I've purchased in the past couple of years this one is the very first disappointment, and that's strictly based on it's size. In the pictures online it looks just like a regular folder, but unfortunately it's quite small, useful only I'd say as a finger-nail cleaning knife. I read the specs that claimed the knife is 6 1/4" oal and it is, but it's built very "slight" and feels light when in-hand. It has a SS dagger blade with n/n, 2-piece blue steel body with through holes, brass torx screws, and slip-joint action. It weighs a scant 1.6 oz.'s, but it is very sharp. Smooth and soft walk n' talk, and typical R/R fit n' finish. I guess 1 outta 300 ain't bad! 8)

Marco,
Good use of the money. I am happy you got your lap top. On the subject of the knife your right 1 out of 300 is not bad.

Anyone noted the SMKW site listing the Rough Ryder Reserve patterns to come in the future? They are listed as high as $139. I
wish them luck but they aren't for me at that price. ::td:: ::td:: ::td::

I agree, $139 way over the top. That equates to $195 in our currency, then you have to add delivery costs on top of that, making it well over $200. I recently received 3 Sheffield knives, 2 made to my specifications for me, not their usual stock items, it cost me including delivery $165, i know what i would rather buy. What would you rather.???? Be keen to know. :)

That is a nice bunch of Rough Riders, Nev.

I also agree that $139 is too much for a RR. That is getting into GEC territory, and just too rich for my blood. To be honest, anything over $20 is a little steep for me to pay for a RR. The whole reason that I buy them is that they are pretty good knives at an affordable price.

At the price of knives in general at present there aren't a lot that are on my list of must have knives. I am more interested in trying to find traditional stag handled knives at what I believe are reasonably priced. This last weekend I just by chance happened upon an estate sale where I found two Case knives (a congress and sodbuster, both in stag) and a dental chest (to be used for knife storage) for under a "C" note. Pictures were posted in the knife finds thread under the general sub forum. These two Case knives fall into my category of knives priced fairly. I have a few RRR knives but in hindsight I would not buy them again if I had it to do over again. I find them overpriced.

Marco, your 'lightly built' Rough Rider looks similar to a "Splinter" pattern, named for it's ability to dig out splinters from your hand. If you give it a try and carry it for a few days i think you will come to appreciate it. Might even become a favorite :) .

Thank you for that Roland! ::handshake:: You understand it's not the fact it's a Rough Rider, I have nothing against the brand and even own a few, it was more of a surprise than anything else since I was expecting something more. The plan is to attach it to my key-chain and have it with me all the time, so I'm sure you're right that I'll come to appreciate it. It's a really cool little knife, it's just I'm use to my knife filling up my hand when I hold it and that knife is simply too small for that. 8)
