Here's an interesting article I read yesterday - after 30 years in the field, it looks like the Army is getting ready to replace the Beretta M9. Seems they want something harder hitting than a 9mm. Most of the stuff I read says that modern expanding 9mm ammunition is as effective as .45 ACP. However, in the military I believe they use FMJ / non hollow point ammo. It will be interesting to see what they decide on.

I wonder what they are going to do with all those old M9s? It would be nice if they made them available to the people who actually paid for them - like they did with 1903s, M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, and 1911s. Somehow I don't see that happening nowadays.
