GSPTOPDOG, your haul reminded me of a similar bucket I bought several years ago. I'll venture my bucket hadn't been full of water as long as yours had. ::hmm:: The man that runs the local antique mall told me he had a bucket with knives and rust. He explained the bucket was in an old van and the back window in the door got broken and the rainwater filled the bucket before he realized the problem. Fortunately, I was able to salvage quite a few of the knives. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. :) Some of that stuff might clean up enough to be useful again. It would be neat to see what you do if you salvage any of those goodies.
Her's what my pile looked like:

T.F. ::paranoid:: looks like that was a pretty good haul ::tu:: I got a buddy that cleans up estates and he gets so much stuff he can't go through it fast enough and a lot of stuff sits outside and just like this bucket I ended up with ::facepalm:: it fills up in the rain and sits and sits... ::skeptic:: until the next rain... ::skeptic:: ::dang::

I found a pretty beat up hori-hori knife and a few other odds and ends :)

(A Hori Hori is a Japanese gardening knife usually with a wooden handle. They either have a smooth or sometimes serrated blade and the blade is usually on a curve or beveled. Usually, they are made of carbon steel which can be cleaned, sharpened and maintained for years).

Those Hori Hori knives are sure useful tools even when very used.

On the way to the UP of Michigan this weekend; A Chas Hall sleeveboard ivory pen from between 1836 to 1872 in really nice condition, a lightly used Uncle Henry lockback hunter in it's sheath, a trio of promotional Beretta items including a money clip, a small fancy folder and a bigger wharncliff bladed folder, all three mint. Whole package for $60.____Dave

Found this little beaut in an antique showcase.

Found this out from under the hammer and anvil in the shop. All reclaimed materials: brass push plate, and forge welded cable.

Been working on cleaning out the outbuilding.

Just oddly laying by itself, I found my great-grandfather's old safety razor, a Gilette Model 134. Not sure where in the production date code list it is, as the alphanumeric system was reused twice. It has an "A4" date code, I think from what I've found, it's ca. 1955. Prior to that, he used a Clauss straight razor (which I also have).

Been wanting one for myself for a long time, since Gillette hasn't made this model in the US in decades (though they did bring a Chinese-made version back recently in the "King C Gillette" line, but it is junk).

I don't think the blade is of any help in dating it, but it appears to be from the '80s.

Everything's "MADE IN USA". Today, you've got the Chinese-made reproduction 134s Gilette sells, with Russian-made blades. I use a German Merkur with German-made Wilkinson (whose coating makes them more comfortable) or Japanese Feather blades.

I plan to put it in my display case, leaving it the way he had it when he last used it, but I'd like to find a 134 for my own use--these are really nice razors. Still opens and closes smoothly. I'm tired of taking my Merkur 23C apart to change the blade and clean it, and the Food Lion-branded 134 copy I own is terrible.
