Went shooting yesterday. Hadn't been in a while. truthfully I was out of sync. It was fun, but I struggled. Need to go more often.
And I shot to the left......... those guns don't shoot to the left?????????????????.....but I guess I do!!!!!

Do you guys use Ren-wax on your guns? I've been using it on all my knives for quite a while but never used it on my guns. I know it wouldn't hurt them but I guess the question is keeping them cleaned and oiled good enough?

.I don't...but I don't think it would be a bad idea on the external parts...but I don't believe I would use it for internal.
...reason being build-up.

Thanks johnnie.....do you use one certain oil on your guns. I've only used the oil that comes in those cleaning kits and sometimes 3 in 1 oil. I was polishing some knives a couple days ago and thought about Ren-wax.

I would never use wax of any kind on my guns. I use 3 in 1 lightly to clean my actons and to clean the barrell.
I have used 3 in 1 on the outer surface of my guns, but I wipe it off. You couldn't tell I oil my guns. I don't like oil on my guns or my knives
sepin' a touch in the actions of both.

museums use wax on weapons for display and preservation purposes.
wax on an operational weapon is a real bad idea...unless you like toastie crud and jammed chambers.

Brad...I use the oil from the cleaning kits and also have used 3 in 1 with good results.
I still think the rem wax wouldn't hurt the external frame..(for long term storage)...and as long as you don't go crazy with it. ...definitely would prevent surface rust...IMO

FRJ! Thats a nlce Mark 1. Here's a picture of mine, i've had it since 1976. The grips are factory Ruger and the scope is a Redfield 2X with a 10 inch eye relief. ftd

I use Break Free CLP on my firearms.

fergusontd, that's a great looking Ruger. I sure like those grips. Can you tell me a little about that scope.
What do you shoot with it? Paper? Rabbits? Squirrles? What can't you hit with it? Very interesting. I like the set up.

FRJ. I can't tell you much about the scope,when I bought the gun it was already mounted , Redfield was bought out by Leuopold, it came with a lifetime warrenty which is no longer honored by Leuoplold, It has a 1"tube and was made in Denver Colo. The grips are walnut and I think they are still aviable from Ruger. The only thing I shoot nowdays is paper. It can shoot nickle size groups at 25 yards over a rest. Offhand not so good! I think it's the jerk behind the trigger thats off! I shoot strictly Winchester Super X ammo thru it. ftd

I shoot various brands through mine. It likes federal. It seems none of my 22s like CCI.

Got a big surprise the other day hadn't seen any of this stuff in eight plus years my nieghbor showed up in my driveway with my loading bench and everything that went with it--i had wrote it off --this all was put in a pole barn in the spring of 02 before i moved in my cabin after a devorce--battery in camera went dead there's alot of stuff i didn't get a pic of 100+ lbs. of lead to go with it all two presses-16 sets of dies--two Mec shot shell loaders and all the s... that goes with it--lotta brass--loading manuals-scales powder measurer's--primers-shot gun halls-tumbler--got alot of cleaning and a few more boxes to look through the Mec loaders are in rough shape hope i can get one good one out of the two-lot of powder, primers & brass that will have to be threw away--gotta find room for it i've got four motorcycles in 12'x22' garage might have to set it up at my son's place

Jack it was a great surprise spent the last two afternoons cleaning and trying to make some kind a progress with it all and slowly gettin it turned around got it to where i could crank a few rounds out but i'll have to get powder & primmers the two Mecs are really rough but savable--when i first bought this bench i had the two Mecs and a Lee press four sets of dies and the bare minnimum to load varmit rounds i used my buddies tumbler and trimmed brass at his bench then this fell in my lap around 99 here's a couple images of some the things the old guy had left in the bench i have every reciet for anything gun related he ever bought in a folder and plan to keep it with the bench this is an origanal S&W box from a Mod. 17 he bought back in the day--ive got more but think this is the coolest-you won't believe what he paide for his Gold Cup i'll post more images another day

I don't remember the PX carrying firearms but of course there are many things I don't remember. $55 doesn't seem like much but in 1967, that was over half of a weeks wages for me. It's $360 in today's dollars. It's a crying shame you don't have the revolver to go with the box and papers.

Always wanted a Mod. 17 and i do remember them gettin pricey as hell in the 90's ended up gettin a Colt Trooper with a 8 3/8" barrel to coon hunt with in 1988 believe i paid $225.00 used and i couldn't touch the 17 fer that then. I tried trading for an unfired one with a 4" barrel in the box in the mid 90's the guy wouldn't dig deep enough fer the Win. Mod.64 in a 30-30 cal. that i was trying to sell. If i could find who owned this revolver i would make this a gift to em or try to buy it for myself. I never met this guy but his name has always sounded very farmilar to me

I may be wrong but I believe that the receipt reads 1963 Jerry. Still, $55 was worth more then than it is now. I had a .22 Magnum like this once. Wish I had it back! Nice shooter.

1963 I was a PFC (E-2) and making $85.80 a month. I had bought a car earlier that year so once all the allotments came out, I got $18 every two weeks. I got out in 1966 as an E-4 over four, making $240.60 a month

1967, I was out, working for NCR and down in Dayton Ohio going to school for my first go around. I made $93 a week plus $18 or $20 per week living allowance. High cotton, I'm here to tell ya.
