Thanks dale. I'm almost positive that it's schrade made. I have an old schrade that the shield, pin placement, and blade grind match up almost perfectly. It has that hard snap and Zero blade wobble that my cut cos have as well.

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
That is what I thought.
I know Schrade made knives for M&G.
I have a peach seed bone trapper that is identical (except tang stamps) to the Schrade trapper.

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
Sweet knives!
I picked up this Shapleigh Hardware Co. Diamond Edge barehead recently, fits in well with a Case XX 6202 1/2 that I EDC and a Cattaraugus 21479 I already had. All measure in at 3 3/8".

Thanks, Rocky & Robert.
Robert, is that Jackson knife from Sheffield or is it USA made? Really nice set of bareheads that you have.

E C Simmons Keen Kutter, could be made by Walden because Simmons had controlling interest in that Co till Winchester bought Walden after WW I
not sure who made this for Simmons or what the scales are made of, some kind of composite. same tang stamp on both blades, if that helps date it or ID it.
hope it belongs on this tread

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
here is a Empire bare head jack with black gum/goop? scales
I know it is vintage, 1856-1930. one book say's west winstead stamp was used after 1880, but I think this is closer to 1930
any idea's on the age and scale material?

Better late than never Mick...very nice Bare head jacks! Love the smooth black scales on the one! The shape is unique and I feel drawn to hold it in my hand just to sense the feel and contour of the knife

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
not sure how vintage this Wards Electrician is. Always hope a Wards knife I get is Winchester made. It is a bare head jack, wood with nice bail
maybe a common, not so vintage knife, but here it is, just like to be involved in the great threads here, but so many to see!

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
Great knives all,
That is a wonderful photo of "bareheads on the grass" Slim, of course I love ebony and so the Miller Bros jumps out at me. The Adolph Blaich looks like is has some full blades, it is a fine looking knife.
Micky, great line up. I agree with that being a Walden, it has a fine looking shield. As for the Empire, you are probably on the money with that being close to the 1930 date. That handle would be called faux or imitation stag (Empire like many companies called jigged bone stag, and antler "genuine stag"), but there are many names for it as it is a simple and inexpensive celluloid.
