A vintage, VERY possibly antique, pair of PECK & SNYDER - AMERICAN CLUB ice skates. I'm 99.99% sure that these were my mother's ice skates (when she was a youngster/teenager). They look like they clamped on to your street shoes or boots. They are adjustable for the length and the width. They still function in that capacity, perfectly. I seem to recall her saying that she and her friends would ice skate on the Hudson River when it froze over. I'm not too certain about that. No, I've never been tempted to see if I could attach them to my shoes and walk around.

I don't know which one, but one of my grandmother's antique irons. These became door stops after electric irons came on the market. Now, they are on my fireplace mantle.

I read Boots and Saddles and Tenting on the Plains ....... a long time ago.
I started reading Following the Guidon but for some reason, at that time, I quit picking it up.

Interesting bit of history: There were orders to shoot Mrs. Custer if there was any chance she might be taken captive by Indians.
One day her and an officer and perhaps a few other soldiers were out riding just to get away from camp for awhile.
As I remember, they were approached aggressively by a group of Indians and they were a good ways away from camp and had to make a hard run to safety. The officer didn't think they were going to make it back and was sure he was going to have to shoot Mrs. Custer.
He apparently planed on it but the incident ended before he had to make that decision.

Talk about racial profiling, this item is pretty much self explanatory. Also pictured, a couple of other versions (not mine) and there were many.

My paternal grandfather was a policeman in Mount Vernon, New York (Westchester County) from approximately 1916 to 1936. He died before I was born and I never asked my father about him. So I'm not 100% sure on those dates, but I'm in the ballpark. I did find an article once in a 1918, Mt. Vernon newspaper that mentioned him helping to break up a factory worker uprising. Anyway, I have some buttons off his uniform(s), his blackjack and his billy clubs, truncheons, night sticks, batons, etc. I like to call them attitude adjusters. The blackjack definitely saw some use. The billy clubs are in fantastic condition with only the original lanyards showing any wear or damage.

Thank you Garry, indeed there is. Funny, the term "police brutality" didn't even exist back then. The police weren't held liable for their actions, most of the time, but the criminals sure were.

Cool Skip! Especially those buttons are really cool! I have looked at old millitary buttons in the bay before but never bought any. Yet.

Thank you Tom. Buttons are great collectibles and don't take up much room at all. The only drawback is trying to trace the manufacturer. Luckily, all the above police uniform buttons are maker marked on the back and easy to look up. I'm going to post another button that I have, I inherited it and have had it since 1982. I have gone on all the military forums I could find to get information on it. No information at all, not even a guess. Maybe it's not military related, I don't know. Check back later today or tomorrow and look it over. Oh, by the way, I don't collect clothing buttons.

As of 11:00 P.M., P.S.T., I found some of these on eBay. The sellers of these don't have any different information on the button(s) than I do.
