Schrade product? I think some Frontiers were Camillus (mostly Double Eagle), some Schrade, and yet others that were made by Imperial using old Schrade and Ulster tooling.

I need to start putting a focus on getting a good workhorse Folding Hunter. My only good one is an old Case my great-uncle used to dress deer (and I don't want to lose or break it), and I wasn't impressed by RRs take in the Classic Carbon lineup (soft steel). I've already decided it will be a Schrade or Western. I'd like another Case, but they are pricey. The 125OT is what I really want.

I need to start putting a focus on getting a good workhorse Folding Hunter. My only good one is an old Case my great-uncle used to dress deer (and I don't want to lose or break it), and I wasn't impressed by RRs take in the Classic Carbon lineup (soft steel). I've already decided it will be a Schrade or Western. I'd like another Case, but they are pricey. The 125OT is what I really want.

I have one at home on the "EDC-shelf" I got a good amount of use out of it and it was a lot cheaper than buying a Case XX (I do love Case, just not always their prices☹ )

I'd been looking at this one for a couple of months at my local cutlery store, and picked up today while I was in there trying out automatics. I have a bad habit of buying every single affordable older knife in used shape they offer for sale, which luckily isn't often.

'40-64 Case 61011 Hawkbill Pruner in Walnut.

At $35, I may have overpaid a little. However, she's still sharp, doesn't wobble, and snaps like a bear trap.

Bought this one as an EDC, but I won't use it hard. It's only my second old pre-dot Case (three if you count a Metal Stampings rigging knife, but I consider those to technically be Grohmanns, as that's what's made in the same Pictou, NS factory now).

I hardly think you overpaid, Cody. I’m betting you could get a whole lot more if you wanted to sell it. But hang on to it. You got a nice classic EDC!

You are actually right, and I've suspected my own notes about the brand have been wrong since getting an odd little Frontier Small Stockman in the POS Exchange a couple of years back that looks nothing like a Camillus or Schrade product, as it's narrower and slightly longer than a 106OT, and with daintier, narrower blades as well. The only pattern I owned that matched in frame size was a shell-handle Imperial. Thus, that would make this a 25OT competitor made by Imperial, not a rebadged 25OT.

Found an old post from a couple of years back that explains it pretty well.

Nice collection! I didn't see a Frontier version by Imperial. The Frontier line was discontinued after Albert Baer bought all the remaining stock in Imperial Knife company.
They made four versions that were direct competitors with the 8OT. The line was created to compete against the Old Timer brand.
That's why Albert discontinued them as soon as he had full control of the company. Some of the frontier knives were actually made in the Camillus factory and some work believe it or not, made in the Schrade factory.
If you don't have these four knives, you may want to look for them because they are the same frame as the 8OT. I've even interchanged back springs between these knives and 80T.

Thanks! I really didn't know that much about older Case, but I checked sold listings on eBay. First of all, the majority of what I found were '65-69 or dotted hawkbills with jigged Pakkawood, not the old-style smooth walnut handles. The cheapest '40-64 that had sold recently was nearly $20 more than I paid for this one, and the rest were double. So, looks like I did do pretty well after all.

The guy that owns it, as well as the buddy that works with him seem to only be interested in the uber-high-end tactical stuff--esp. Rick Hinderer (which they've tried to talk me into buying multiple times--I can barely afford the import Gerber and Kershaws that were designed by Rick Hinderer, let alone the stuff he made himself--which are 10X the price). They rarely carry anything in EDC or less condition. Unless it's a super desirable pattern (i.e. Elephant Toenail), they undervalue just about anything (especially traditional knives) that's seen some carry and use, or even any hint of bad storage. Got a probably '70s era Boker Solingen 280 Whittler last fall for about $30, and the only difference from the one they had with a $70 price tag on it was a few carbon spots and the lack of a box.

I missed out on a decent Case Jack and a Coke Bottle Hunter for around this same price last year. I've made it a goal to usually pounce on any cheap older EDC-condition knife they have as soon as possible. Surprisingly, this one hadn't moved in nearly two months. There's a really nice oak-handled Schrade USA Trapper I may buy if the budget allows anything next month.

Finally got back out to the flea market Sunday. Not great pickin's, and these aren't the best shape, but the price was right...
