All About Pocket Knives

Picked up at a gun/knife show today, a Kelly How. Thomson probably made by Napanoch, a Ulster and a nice gun holster, $35 total for the two knives and $20 for the holster.____Dave

Went to a local junk/antique store today on a whim, and picked up a few things (mostly not knife related...)

A very worn-out old sheath, which I believe to be from a WWII Ka-Bar. $8 paired with a very rusty Taiwan-made skinner.
The Cat's Meow Harman Chapel--Bluefield College (well, University now); Bluefield Virginia. While I was an online student (even though I live like ten minutes away), I usually went to orientation in this very chapel every year, and I graduated there in 2018 with a BS in Management. Two bucks--guy also had some very early ones from the Cat's Meow--so I'll buy the rest of the set. Originally, I intended to only collect fire stations--but they did a whole series for my town in 1993.
Minolta-16 MG-S Submariner. It was $15, and I was thinking about putting it back into service. Been thinking about buying it since i first visited this store last month.

Needs a new light seal, and a good going-over by an expert in film cameras--making a call to the photography department of the above college next week. If that fails, SWCC, my other alma mater.

Thinking I'll get a film camera that I don't have to load with specialty film first to learn the ropes before using this one. You can't buy the Minolta cartridges anymore and have to go with a 3D printed one (which needs a lot of hand-fitting and light seals added0and loading your own film (though I plan to buy old-stock expired Minolta film and reload with new film instead--as the cartridges they made were designed to be reloaded). Besides, I'll have to use the college darkroom (assuming they still have one) to even load the film into cartridges.
MegaPro 15-in-1/Cully 37200 (has a Cully ad on the back, but it was something they sold themsleves--for about 50% more than the manufacturer). $3--with all bits included. MSRP is about $30, and they usually sell for about $25 new most other places.

Picked up three at the Wanemacher's Gun Show - the two Old Timers and the Remington R1128 and off the ebay the Remington R1178

Thanks tvic - I think I kinda got a little tricked. I was dealing with the fella and he said if I bought both (Remingtons) he'd make a deal. I was looking the knives over and he said "come with both boxes and the paperwork" I could see it in the box under the wrapping paper and never thought anything of it. Well, when I get it home and investigate the "paperwork" for the Mini-Trapper is a photo copy. - just goes to show you, even a brother knife guy can need to be double checked.

Saw my friend Michael today and we did a little trading. He got a Tac-Force flipper and a want-to-be Italian Stiletto along with an Italian AKC Leverlock, I had two of. I got a BSA lockback by Camillus for the BAS 75th Diamond Jubilee. Steel and Brass handles with some beautiful etchings in the brass on both sides and includes a leather display case and the COA. Also I'm keeping the Franklin Mint Cy Young knife and he had a large bag and purse by Vera Bradley that Cheryl wanted. The other three knives in the picture (Whitetail Cutlery fixed blade, Colonial Hobo and an unknown) I will clean for him before he puts them in his booth at the antique store.

At New Graham:

Looked at a ton of knives, and instead of buying 2-3 cheaper ones, I finally told myself to go ahead and buy the Launch 9 or Launch 10 from Kershaw (the two I really liked). Settled on the 10 because it fired a little harder, and the hawkbill shape allows it to make up for its small size. This is my first decent auto, and I am very impressed. It's easy to open with either my right or left hand (though I always carry my OHO on my weak side--which is right), and is comfortable to use; and weighs hardly anything.

Now if I can just stop accidentally poking myself on the tip... I'm just not used to having a decent auto.

At a local antique store near my home.

Russell (not Green River for some reason) 7" butcher's knife--eight bucks. Only problem is that the scales are heavily degraded towards the tang, and there's a huge gap. Plans are to probably use it as a rescale project, since it isn't like my other butcher knives (which were mostly handed down). Not
Bought this little Grizzly Snuff lockback as you don't see many super-small knives with pocket clips (and it was only two bucks) out of a bunch of junk knives. Kind of well, "cheap and cheerful", and I suspect the pivot is plastic, but time will tell how it holds up. Right now, I'm teetering on putting it in the box for the 2025 POS Exchange.

I went to a show today and picked up a few items myself
Camillus camp knife in orange, and a couple Remingtons.

My brother and I were at an antique shop looking for knives without success when a man approached us and stated he just came from an estate sale and there were still some knives there. I had found this knife price guide for 1890-1970 printed in 1993 by Jacob N. Jarrett. I paid for it and we rushed out and over to the estate sale only to find it had been picked over pretty good. The knives I found were a no name Leatherman style multi-tool, a Kutmaster Pruner and a Imperial Ireland Stockman. The last two are pretty dirty but I think they will clean up alright.

Wow 3xF !!! I have stopped going to my local FLEA MARKET, it has become a pathetic joke It cost me about $8 in gas round trip to drive there and $1 to park... all to find ZERO knives like I see you posting. Sure, you can get knives there... Chi-Com Cheapos; all absolute junk!

I found this Craftsman USA 9502 at a show in a box of junk knives and got it for $10. I was pretty happy with that price, and it cleaned up nicely.

Scales, that's a good-looking Stockman! Am I correct in thinking that one is made by Schrade?

I went to a big Flea across Florida event last Friday, only one stop and brought home 2 pocketknives.
Being the tightwad that I am, price is a prime consideration when picking up any knife. One gentleman, a dealer apparently, had all kinds of knives and he was proud of his wares. New Case knives priced above retail and used ones were also high. I noticed a strawberry bone colored knife and asked him about it, it had a Smith & Wesson shield like on a handgun. I've seen way too many S&W knives that were junk from over "there" , I was a bit leary. He priced it at $20, I put it back in the pile and walked on. I spotted a congress pattern knife on a table among a bunch of house wares, asked about it, the guy said $3, so I bought it. Rambled a bit more around the market and kept thinking about that big ol' trapper with the S&W name on it. So I went back, halfway hoping it would be gone. It was still there so I gave the man the money. I am slightly familiar with the Taylor brand name but only in a negative way. The stamp shows USA, the thing is a beast, half stops, good walk and talk, lightly used and I have no idea who actually made it? I noticed there is one listed for sale and one that has already been sold in the AAPK stores. Who do y'all think made this big ol' trapper? The knife is not very comfortable to hold when the clip lade is opened, the spay stands high and does not give a comfortable grip.
