All About Pocket Knives

Disston hand saw, 1940s era. The saw was initialed "JB"--there's a good chance that the previous owner was either my great-great Granddad or a cousin of his.

Craftsman 187.37051 block plane (rebranded Stanley 220). I got most of the rust off, but it will need to be handed off to a buddy to make it functional for woodworking once again. Since Stanley still makes the 220, I'm hoping they will be able to send me a new (plastic) knob, as opposed to paying $12 for an unfinished aftermarket replacement.

Now to find a decent bench plane without breaking the bank. Only one (Montgomery Ward Wardmaster) I've found locally is a little expensive for what I want to pay, but they're Stanley-made (this one I think is based on the #45) and said to be great planes--and it's still in good shape (no real work needed other than tuning).

NAPA (by whom, I don't know--everything involving NAPA tools seems to only mention modern Carlyle stuff) nut setters, Stanley USA 3/4 12-pt combination wrench.

Matchbox Jaguar XJ-6 (made in Macau--issued 1987-1990) and Corgi Juniors Whizzwheels #99 Jokermobile/Healer Wheeler (Made in England, '70s). Fifty cents each. The Corgi has the roof light broken off, and the Jag has a few small chips on the driver's (RHD you know) side.

A $10 Seki-made SOG Vulcan.

A tank of a knife, and it is super-smooth. The knife had quite a few problems--rust spots everywhere, filthy, and a severely bent pocket clip. I was surprised I got the clip straightened out without breaking it. Going to see a lot of use around the farm--it is VERY quick to open, and the Arc Lock is as good as Benchmade's AXIS if not better. Hopefully, it isn't a fake, but best I can tell, there isn't such a thing as a fake Vulcan.

Oh, and I did also swap the clip for left-hand use.

Dave, I already commented on the Coats knife and I got to wondering about. How does it feel in the hand with the clip blade open? Several weeks ago I got a similar shaped knife, the Smith & Wesson shown here viewtopic.php?p=1132473#p1132473
I found it to very uncomfortable in the hand with the big spay blade closed, it's fine with it open. The "Saddle horn" pattern is very pleasing to the eye but from my short time of playing with it, it would not be a "go to" knife when dressing a deer. What do you think about the feel in your hand?
