Only things missing are the sardines (or smoked oysters) and the little Debbie cake for desert! I've eat many a meal like that out of saddle bags or in the hunting field.

I know it sounds strange to y'all but snow is just plumb fascinatin' to me. Lookin' at the deer blind and even the picture of the buck and there is a small patch(?) in the background. We see so little of it here in the panhandle of Florida, I wouldn't know how to act in the woods if it snowed enough to turn the ground white. Other than being cold, I would think snow would enhance the hunting by providing more contrast, easier to see a deer moving on white snow compared to the Florida landscape. Just a passing thought about the snow, bottom line, your brother got a fine buck for the freezer!

thanx TF AND your right snow changes the game contrast wise and the speed in which we track'em.We live for the white stuff, guys will take there work-boots off for hunting boot if it snows on the way to work .

.............lots of hunting talk in this kind of weather!!........doesn't anybody fish this time of year???.......biggest bass I ever caught was on feb. 17,1968,11 lbs. 8 oz., high temp. that day was 30 degrees-north wind about 30 mph, almost froze, but it was worth it!!!.............. .........................

I am headed to Ringneck Ranch in Kansas next weekend with some of my old High School buddies / clay shooting partners. Really looking forward to it. We'll see if all this clay shooting will pay off on the real thing.

I did a lot of dove and quail hunting growing up, but have never hunted pheasant. Will try to post some pics when I get back.

Unk, if you've hunted Quail, you'll have no problem with Pheasant. While I was still in high school my Quail hunting Uncle came up to go Pheasant hunting. He said Pheasant are so slow, you can't miss them.

When the water hardens I'll be afta the fish

Deer huntin' with a rifle in our part of Florida always opens on Thanksgiving Day, only opens for 4 days, closes and then Muzzle loader season for week, then guns season opens up and runs through late February. I don't know the dates for archery season, it's early and goes on forever .

Several years ago I killed a deer on Thanksgiving afternoon here at our place, the whole family was here. The 2 grandsons wanted to go with me next time. Okay, took both of them, just hoping to let them see a deer. That didn't work too well . The next year I took them separately and it went pretty well. Same deal this year, it was decided the older one, 10 years old, would go Thanksgiving afternoon and the Friday afternoon the 8 year old would go.

Well let me tell you how it went:
We rode the cart down to the shooting house at about 3:30. We climbed up in the house and I was adjusting the curtains on one of the windows when the grandson says "There goes a tail, GrandDad!" Well that kinda' made me feel foolish but I told him they'll be back. Around 4pm we started spotting deer in the planted pines near the automatic feeder. The feeder went off and scared the deer, but they soon returned, some fed out into the Rye grain patch and others came by the feeder and were just having a good time feeding on the native browse, the corn as well as the green field. There were 2 does with twin fawns, some still with spots. Then 6 or 7 big deer came through the pines and finally I spotted a legal buck. He kept hanging back and never giving me a clear shot, probably for 10 minutes or so. Had about 10 minutes of legal time left when he finally stepped out. (I was hoping he would stay back but he didn't). I told the grandboy to stay still, when I get ready to shoot, put the hearing protectors on and see what happens. Pow! "You got him, GrandDaddy!" Naturally this was exciting for both of us, I think it kinda' aggravated Miss Joy when she said, "Tell me you didn't, you know Thanksgiving supper is ready!" "Give us half hour and we'll be ready to eat ." The little 4 pt. was in good shape, he's in the cooler to age for a week or so.

Friday afternoon we went with the younger boy. Right off he said, "There goes a deer in the pines." Sure enough he had spotted one before the ol' man . We saw 6 or 7, thank goodness no bucks !
