Here's one I just picked up off the 'bay.

I's a TL-29 Cut Co. A little beat up, but still cool. I wasn't familiar with the older ones. This one doesn't have a liner lock. When you want to close the screwdriver blade, you push down on the closed knife blade to release the backspring of the screwdriver blade. There is a little steel nub that is part of the knife blade spring that extends over to the screwdriver spring. It is cool. This may not be new to most of you, but this is the first time I have seen this.

Glen those tl-29's are cool. I pick them up when ever I get the chance. Harder to find the old Schrades like that anymore.

Great old knife Glenn. Never heard of that release system on a TL-29, I have a new copperhead with one, and I went insane trying to figure out how to release the dang blade. ::dang::

I have one similar. Mine does have the liner lock so must be a newer one. Except for the wooden scales, it is all steel. No shield. Does yours have brass liners? Both blades have half stops on this one. Still has incredible snap.

Hal,
The press down release system predated the TL-29 liner-lock.
IIRC those were accepted by the Army Signal Corps around the time of WWI or just before. Most examples I have seen are 3-3/8" instead of 3-3/4" like the ones we see now. There were exceptions though I don't think they were Mil-Spec.

I'm not a collector of fixed blades per say, but I've always wanted a Bears Head knife. The grooved wooden handles are gorgeous, and I like the black and white spacers. This one is 8 1/2" total length, and the blade itself is 4 1/4", from the top of the guard to the tip.
