Not sure if this helps but the Cattle knife pattern pre dates the Stockman. I believe the name "cigar' pattern is a later nickname perhaps coined by someone who didn't know or like the name "Cattle" ?
I have the same Winchester Cattle Knife as shown above(3009) except mine is the 3008 pattern as it has the spear master blade.
I have it listed in "Advertisements" but am thinking it might be one of those knives you regret having sold.

I think you're right Kj. For a Winchester collector that knife would be a prize you wouldn't want to let go of. She is a beauty!

3 5/8" Robeson, slick black, tight and snappy, only the very faintest signs of use. Glassy smooth patina. The pen blade has an unusual grind; it might look short to some, but it is not. I can see the remains of an etch, but I can't make out any of it.

I think these were etched "Carpenter's Knife".

I think the oddly shaped pen blade was intended to be a scribe.

I think the odd secondary blade on those Robesons is actually an awl.

Beautiful Robeson examples posted recently. Here are a couple that Charlie RobesonsRme helped me add to my pile of Cattle knives.

With the Robeson ShurEdge U.S.A stamp, I have a very difficult time knowing if a knife is before 1940 or after 1940. I believe the Carpenters Choice knife is pre-1940 because the word ShurEdge is mixed case instead of all uppercase letters.

Jerry, your Carpenter's Choice dates 1916 to 1939 and the punch knife 1922 to 1939, according to the research from Tom Kalcevic in Knives Can Talk.

Winchester #3950 Cattle knife...

Wostenholm calls this a Farmer's knife but it looks similar to many of the Cattle knives shown. Perhaps a variation on the theme.
