Oh, sorry. It's a .22 cal.

Those old stevens favorites are plumb cool. And depending on the model can get quite pricy.

I have a couple old long barreled .22's that when shooting sorts almost sound like they're suppressed they're so quiet. I'm a fan of em.

....I love my 2 old .22's, but my "new" henry .22 carbine is the sweetest-shhoting .22 I've ever fired!!!.....,almost as much fun as my .44-40!!!!.......... ................

I had one of those, but I traded it off in one of those deals I couldn't refuse. Right now I have my sights set on the .22 lever of all levers, the longest American made repeating firearm of any caliber or gauge....a Marlin 39a!

....col., the buddy I shoot with has one and he let me try it, and it's really a nice gun, but I think they cost about twice what a henry costs!!..he shot my $300.00 henry and was really impressed with it...I just don't think you can beat 'em!!!....half the money and 100% u. s. a. made!!!....... ........

Nice old Stevens Gents. Dad had a couple of Steven shotguns at one point I believe.

Remington 514 .22 that my Dad had for years. Single shot bolt action. Manufactured in February 1964' based on barrel stamp. Same year I was born. Seems to have held up better than I have. Great little .22 and perfect for teaching kids to shoot among other uses.

Stevens 14 1/2 Little Scout. Neat little rifle. No pictures.

I have a Rem single shot around here somewhere. It shoots better than I do!

Anyone here ever do any steel plate shoots? I have done quite a few but it has been about 10 years or so since the last one. Great group of people and a great time for sure. They closed the range where we had them and opened a real state of the art one with still no fee. My tax dollars at work.

Anyway, managed to meet up with one of the guys today and they still hold them in a different spot (not at the new range).

The first video is actually at the old range where we used to hold the steel plate matches. Can't see in video although you can hear the additional gunshots, this is a "Man versus Man" tournament with 2 identical side by side courses shot by 2 shooters at the same time. Drop all your targets and the "stop popper" first and you win. Great fun!

Second one is a Fallon, NV shoot that is pretty damn cool in my opinion. Fallon is the home to "Top Gun" military base about 100 miles away.

We have a steel plate shoot this weekend that I hope I can participate in. If you have never done one, good fun and great people.

If I get a chance to compete in steel plates next weekend, I will post some pics.

Jerry, that is a very nice old Remington 514 - nice piece of walnut in the stock too. In guns and knives your Dad had good taste! OH

Thanks for the compliments OH! Yes, Dad had good taste. He was a maintenance QA inspector for the airlines. For the most part, everything he bought was quality over quantity and take good damn care of it. Definitely rubbed off on me. I still have some fishing rods he bought over 40 years ago. He maintained and cared for his things. If if needed repair, he did it. 7 kids and mom was at home always. Cant afford to waste. Times have changed...

Here is a Springfield J. Stevens .22 that I believe was manufactured in the 1930's or 1940's. From the research I have done, it appears to have been a low-cost everyman's rifle - which makes sense given it was Depression era purchase by my sharecropper ancestors. I am sure it had a meaningful purpose and wasn't a recreational hobby item at that time. It was handed down to me in the 1960's from a family member. Many old beer cans picked up from the side of the road were sunk in Dutchman Creek back in the day from rounds out of this rifle. It is a bolt action with a 5 shot clip. It has not been fired for over 40 years. I intend to rectify that soon .

I have a (First Year Production) 1958 Savage 110, 270 cal. , that was made in the Chicopee Falls Ma. plant --- Savage moved their operations, around the corner to Westfield Ma. in 1960**

Wow Monk! That is a beautiful stock on your Savage - especially the grain of the buttstock.

That's a great looking old rifle. I especially like the steel buttplate.

I also have an old Savage 110 from the same Chicopee Falls Ma. plant. It has an old 5 digit serial number not pre-pended with a letter like the newer ones. Best I can tell based on receiver length, it is a first year run "short bolt action" from 1959'.

Originally a .308 that my Dad had converted to .243 for me at about ~11 years old for my first deer hunt, which came maybe a year or 2 later.

My most prized long rifle my Dad gave me. The stock is not stock production. My Dad either got a very rough cut stock or prepped the wood for the stock himself. He was a stellar woodworker but not by trade. Either way, I was about 11 or 12 years old, and he and I were in the garage for days on end with a coarse rasp, wood files, numerous sandpaper grits and about 30 coats of stain, lacquer, poly or whatever. Found out shortly after we finished it that I and a left eye dominant, left hand on rifle only shooter so the butt cheek is now on the wrong side but no big deal.

Shot my first measly spike (barely legal) buck with this rifle when I was 13 years old in Oil City, PA.

My brother in law shot himself in the hand with a 30-06 many year ago in Utah. yes, in the hand! Foolish/careless mistake but no less tragic. Mom was soured on guns. Dad sold it to his best friend down the street mainly cause Mom was a bit freaked out. Pretty heartbroken at that point. Years later, the nice guy down the street passed away after my Mom also did. We approached his widow and she tells us to come over. I s**t you not, she opens the door to a bedroom with about 200 rifles stacked like firewood against the wall. Some great old lever actions and such and 9 of each kind. Found my old rifle and Dad's 30-06 and away we went a few dollars shy.

This one obviously has major sentimental value of course. Had her back for about 10 years now. Will be passed down the generations to my son and grandson.
