All About Pocket Knives

Here is the latest special release from the Titusville Cutlery brand. The popular Big Easy Cotton Knife pattern is back, this time in a shadow pattern (no bolsters) with Gaboon Ebony handles. They were made with nickel silver liners, and have either 2 different blade types to choose from. 1095 High Carbon, or Raindrop Damascus.

I'd spent all my time around the other big knife forum and have never heard of these guys, their knives are beautiful!.

What are the differences between the titusville and tuna Valley brands? I saw a couple of similar (to me) knives but they're 50% different in price. Both look equally stunning.

I do like the idea of never releasing the same pattern combination again from a colletors perspective. I'm carbon through and through so will try to pick a titusville.

Be sure to show a photo of the knife you choose once you get it. It's always nice to see the different knives that guys end up with.

Just picked up my first DFKB Napanoch Longneck Barlow dressed in gray Giraffe Bone and made for Slipjoint Exchange. This knife has great F&F and is an extremely stout & solid knife.

Oddly enough, I was looking at the Daniels Family Knife Brand website to research this knife, and from the looks of the giraffe bone, I believe this is the same exact knife they have pictured on their website.

Great looking knife! I always enjoyed the character and variety of giraffe bone. That's cool to be able to have the knife that was used in the promo photos too!

That would be quite a feat to collect all 4 colors. I know there were more of the Blue and Grey than the others, and not many of the red. They were made as a pre-order, for the colors that were requested by the buyers.

Thanks for the info. Carl, always good to have such a knowledgeable resource here on the forum. I got a pretty good deal on this one, but I imagine if I did find any of a different color, they would probably have a hefty price tag on them. Maybe I'll get lucky and come across at least one more at a knife show at some point.

This is the latest announcement. Shipping out the first weekend of January will be the next variation of the Big Easy Cotton Knife from the Titusville Cutlery brand. These feature beautiful Genuine India Amber Stag handles, and 1095 blades with long pull. Only 60 knives were made.

I'm not especially fond of that particular pattern, but I do love the stag. DFB knives always have excellent stag. All their stag handled knives are every bit as nice as the stag typically found only on high-end custom handmade knives.

Thanks I-Man! In my early years of collecting, I wasn't much of a Barlow fan. However, in recent years after seeing all the beauties posted on here, I have really come to appreciate them more and love everything about this knife.

Beautiful knives, no doubt out of my price range but they’ll make some folks happy for sure.

Since they turn the pin heads for the handle pins, when the handle is fitted and pinned in place, they want the pin dome to be below surface. A turned head pin looks ugly if part of the dome is flattened off. So the big handle slab is applied, and then ground down to shape, and especially fitting it to the thickness of the bolster so that transition is smooth. You will notice knives with no bolsters don't have sunken pins. That is just my basic understanding, I'm sure the knifemaker would give a lot more detailed info.

These came out end of 2023, I've been a bit behind with my postings. These are another release of Deputy Ranger knives from the Napanoch Knife Co. brand. These 3 inch knives feature a spear blade and saw, and this release came in a shadow pattern style. They came in blue or brown giraffe bone, Catalina Wine bone, or Ebony wood handles, and are an exclusive release only available through dealer Ole Kentucky Rob.

Another recent release in the Excelsior line was a few more examples of the Mola Mola sunfish pattern by knifemaker Chuck Hawes. These 2 knives feature colored Box Elder handles, and River pattern Damascus blades. At 4 3/8 inches long closed, these mammoth knives are an exclusive release only available with dealer TSA Knives.

I really like the quality of all the Daniels knives but I hope they are not going the direction of Great Eastern. Stick to classic handles not all these bright colors and gimmicky blades.

For exclusive releases, like these, the dealers get to have a say in what is made. Ole KY Rob likes the saw blades, and pays to have them created for him to sell. And those knives are only available to him as a dealer.

Same with the colorful exotic woods for TSA, that is a special request that they made.

Do the dealers have a say in the type of blade steel also?
