Let’s talk Bourbon

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

$30! You should be charged for theft. One store here has it for $69, I passed.

Boji,
I could have bought their 12 year old for $200 which is a great price for Weller 12 year. I just couldn’t justify spending that much on a bottle. They keep Weller locked up in the office and only sell to good customers. I guess that means I’m buying too much. He brought it out in a bag so others couldn’t see what it was.
It’s a Magnificent bourbon. I was fortunate to get it at a terrific price.

Boji, Alcohol taxes in Iowa are considerably higher than in Georgia. That accounts somewhat for the price difference. However, it doesn’t account for the large discrepancy. Store owner greed accounts for the rest. These two websites shows the difference state by state. You might try shopping elsewhere.

I’m very aware of the taxes in Iowa on booze. Whenever I visit my son in Branson MO the liquor store gets my $$$.

Had to drop off a couple of things at Linnea's so stopped off at Sam's Club on the way home to get one of those large containers of mixed nuts. Picked up a bottle of Larceny Small Batch to try.

Jerry, good choice. That’s what re-started my bourbon journey about 6 years ago after years of Barcardi & Coke and Jack & Coke.

Thanks Boji. What do you recommend? Neat, cut with with water, cut with my normal soda water? Just curious & leaning toward what I know. Soda water, lightly flavored.

I would first try it with just some ice. If you don’t care for that go with your usual. It’s a good mixer.

I had a small glass this afternoon straight up, no ice nor mixers of any kind. Not bad. Next tasting will be the old tried and true, on the rocks with a little soda water. Thanks for the suggestion.

I stock up when I go to Maryland. The tax might be more, but the mom & pop store prices are cheaper than the VA ABC.

I can sip it straight up and I can't say that for all of them. It was only $21 at Sam's Club. $25 at Walmart & Target.

Picked up a bottle of one of my standby bourbons. Not my favorite but very good flavor and only $33 for a 1.75 liter bottle. Hard to beat for the price.

Not sold in the United States for decades. It’s back. Hadn’t seen it in any stores but seen it offered online.

My enabler st the little local shop showed me this and I couldn’t refuse. He knows I’m a sucker for MM Private Selection bottles. Overpaid a bit but OMG! I love it. I don’t get the chocolate taste but do get the almond. Not for everyone, it is sweet, very little burn even at 109.4 proof.
I’m a happy camper

A terrific find Boji ! I love Makers Mark but never seen the private selection before. Many years ago, they sold one with a black wax seal that was aged longer. Haven’t seen it in ages.
Have a shot for all of us. Enjoy !

Cracking open some Weller bourbon tonight.
Don’t know if I can get more, so this bottle will have to last me a long time. Still trying to find a spectacular bourbon that isn’t well known or hyped to sell at an inflated price. Seems every time a great bourbon is discovered, the price soars. I can remember getting a fifth of Elijah Craig at $17. Last time I checked the price, it was way more than that.

Oscar, which Weller do you have? Be sure to give your opinion of it. Don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere local. Very highly hyped like Buffalo Trace.
Lately I’ve been working on a bottle of Evan Williams BnB, 100 proof, mixed with a splash of Coke. Good at the price point but I do prefer the Old Tub at around the same price.
