Nice shot of the Moki, Alan. That leather slip with it's pattern will be a nice complement for a lot of handle materials.

Gsptopdog - you posted a couple of nice sets of photos. My favorite is the last shot of the Deleon: I like the play of light on the blade.

Off Topic Reply: made it through "Lala" safely, thankfully We had a lot of wind and rain and a lengthy power outage but fortunately no damage to our house. Despite this extreme weather event over the weekend and the 4.1 mag earthquake today (not to mention the 6.0 magnitude earthquake last May, torrential rainfall causing flash floods and the ever-present threat of tsunamis), many people still cling to the belief that living in Hawaii is like living in paradise Where do they get such a crazy notion?

Q - good to read that you had no damage to your house. I hope the flooding does not force those wild hogs up into your yard. Do a lot of coconuts fall during a tropical storm?

Oh yeah! Although, they tend to hang on pretty tightly until they're ready to drop so it’s mostly the coconuts that were already close to falling on their own anyway, the storms just make it happen a little sooner than nature intended. But when they do fall they can be deadly just like a bowling ball falling 20’ or more on your head would be!

These coconuts are on my neighbor's tree that's right next to our driveway where our car is parked. We were lucky none of them came down and landed on our car in the storm (she's promised to have a guy cut them down before the next storm) Like most palm trees, Coconut Palms are pretty amazing for their ability to endure super strong winds without breaking or uprooting. Perfectly adapted to survival in some pretty hostile conditions.

P.S. you might want to consider slapping some of this over most of your high-carbon pieces for some extra protection.... ... From the looks of the storm on the radar ... you can't be too carful!!!

Mahalo, T-DOG Even on it's best behavior (aka the mythical "paradise"), Hawaii's salty, humid climate has always been problematic for knife maintenance and preservation. I appreciate the product recommendation, it looks like just what I need for my kitchen knife!

Decided to take this Chinese knockoff Benchmade Lansky1 gave me on my village tour this morning to see how well it photographed. I think it's an attractive, well made knife and wouldn't have had any idea it was a fake if John hadn't told me.

Thank you. It’s one that came out like I planned. It must be the knife because I have a composite that is equally nice, if I can find it.

That is a good looking knife, fake or not. Your comment about the salty and humid climate goes for my area too. Carbon steel is really prone to rust.
