Re: Ode To The 07
At least the mark side does have great looking red stag.
Case makes their stag red by dying it. Case has dyed stag odd colors in the past but, as far as I know, only dyes it red and black now. I own a Blue Stag 5318. Despite new knives with dyed stag being less expensive than knives with burnt stag, Prime Stag or Vintage Stag Red Stag is usually bid higher on ebay. I suspect the bidders believe they are buying antler pieces off European red stag, a species Case has never used.
Otherwise, that combination of blades is the most common combination in 6507s and 5507s. My 5507 with those blades is darkened with black dye making it Midnight Stag.
The price? Who knows. Maybe the buyer already had enough private jets, super yachts, expensive cars and mansions and only wanted a nice Case pocket knife. Or the whole auction was pretend and the seller canceled it for one of several reasons that make no fees due to ebay. That is done to drive up prices. Ether way, I suspect Q's three blade 07 is fat enough for the pocket in his Hawain shorts.

Re: Ode To The 07
I recently became aware that Q's Mini-T collection might be deficient. The monkey must worry that someday soon Q might not have the correct 07 to drop in his short pants pocket for a walk on the beach. In 1982 Rigid contracted Case to make rosewood 7207s stamped Rigid USA. Do you have one?
Re: Ode To The 07
Precious few things in life are worse than not having the proper 07 to slip into my short pants pocket as I head out to the beach.
A Case-made Rosewood-handled Rigid 7207 sounds like just the ticket However, if Rigid had really done it right, it would be a 7207W
My only Rigid was not made by Case, is not a 7207, and has a cocobolo handle, but at least they got the blade right. It will have to suffice.

Re: Ode To The 07
That's a beautiful knife, ~Q~, a pattern that I am very much attracted to.
I purchased a similar knife on eBay but it was all-metal, and it was seized by Customs cuz they rightfully claimed they could open it with 1 hand. They tried to seize another legal knife from the same package cuz they were too lazy to forward it to me like they're suppose to do, but I fought them on it and ultimately they released it for delivery.
I'm also very fond of the top-lock system.
Great knife and picture, buddy!

Re: Ode To The 07
My only Rigid that was not made by the original company is a Japanese Rigid with an approximately 3 1/2' - 4" fixed blade. It's pretty decent for the $25 it cost me. Since the original company closed the brand has been sold and resold to businessmen who had the knives made in various countries. It gets confusing. I do not recognize your Rigid. If I run across a Rigid/Case Mini-T or Stockman at a reasonable price I'll buy it to go with my old Rigids. The original company had the Case slip joints made.
BTW, are you sure the better idea wouldn't have been a Rigid/Case 7107W?

It's almost as of you can read The Monkey's mind! Clearly, you know him even better than he knows himself! I'm starting to wonder if you aren't part monkey yourself.Modern Slip Joints wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 2:42 am BTW, are you sure the better idea wouldn't have been a Rigid/Case 7107W?

Gracias amigo. I, too, am quite fond of that pattern. The smooth, graceful (dare I say, sexy?) curves of the handle are very pleasing to my eye and feel so good in my hand.
Sorry to hear about the seizure by customs. That would drive The Monkey absolutely berserk with unbridled rage.

Re: Ode To The 07
I do not know of a better place to ask 07 questions so here goes. Other than the Rigid contract 07s did Case install rosewood or walnut on 07s? I'm asking about solid wood, not packa-wood or laminated wood. Walnut has its own number: 1. Really old 07s are of less interest becaue they command higher prices but they're still interesting.

I've come to think of Customs seizures as the price of doing business, that way the monkey can remain somewhat calm, but it still irks me at times knowing my beautiful knives are going into their collections. It is what it is!

Re: Ode To The 07
I had forgotten your 100 year commemorative and our discussion of how historically accurate its etch is or isn't. 500 commemoratives makes the answer almost no. That makes the gap in your 07 collection where rosewood should be appear even larger.
Case has made other patterns realitively recently with ebony. I'll look through SMKW mailings for ebony 07s.
Re: Ode To The 07
Here's an interesting 9207 with raindrop Damascus blades. It was made in 2018 by Frost Cutlery under contract to Case.

I do believe this is the last new 07 I will ever buy. RIP, Mini-T Monkey!

Re: Ode To The 07
Maybe it should read "this is the last new 07 I bought". The last I saw Mini T Monkey he was hanging on the side of the Empire State Building swatting at passing planes with his left had and an 07 clutched in his right hand. I think he is alive and well.

Re: Ode To The 07
It is possible that your Mini-T mountain might contain enough 07s to handle whittling on the beach, cutting out co-conut meat and what ever else you use them for.
I see you are branching off into Queens.

Re: Ode To The 07
Mahalo, John, but I think your kind regards will have to be conveyed by my Mini T partner in crime, jerryd, since he is more likely to be seeing Mini T monkey sooner than I. As far as I know, they're living the high life together in Mini T paradise already (or perhaps they've just moved to a farm upstate with plenty of green pastures for them to frolic in and swim in lakes full of all the Mini Ts they ever dreamed of! )
Thank You to all who expressed their condolences at the passing of Mini T Monkey, even if it was in the form of skepticism and/or outright disbelief.
Your red royalty notwithstanding, your Doubting Thomas denial is understandable as we all deal with grief at our own pace. Denial is the first phase and hopefully you will get through the anger, depression and bargaining phases and arrive at the inevitable acceptance phase quickly and painlessly. I'm sure it's what Mini T Monkey would have wanted!
It's now been 4 months since my last new 07 purchase, the longest period of time I've gone since I started collecting 07s in earnest, and still not a single shrill shriek in my ear from The Monkey demanding I buy another one. Although, I did get a Stag Hen & Rooster 212DS Mini Trapper but that was due to Stag Monkey's incessant screeching, not Mini T Monkey's.knifeaddict1965 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 10:22 pm It's been 16 hrs. since this post... It is no secret that The Monkey family is exceedingly enormous and consists of multiple subgroups. Queen #51 Monkey is a long time resident on my back and still resides there and remains ever vigilant and prepared to raise the alarm; although, it must be noted that Queen 51s are fewer and further between and seem to be getting scarcer every day. Stag and Mammoth Monkey are permanent residents but the current dominant Alpha Monkey in charge seems to be ACSB Monkey.

Floyd, I believe that must've been the reclusive jerryd you saw. I guess he's not gone upstate after all but has moved to the Big Apple and taken up plane swatting...an appropriate and fitting hobby to fill the void left from the termination of 07 collecting! Give 'em hell, jerryd!!!

I hate to bust your bubble but (for various reasons) I have stopped buying knives. Period. I still look but my $ stays in my pocket.
