I picked up this Kimber 45 Ultra Carry with Crimson Trace Laser grips back in Feb. First gun I've had with the lazer grips and it sure is fun to shoot. The Colt Pony 380 and the CZ 9mm I've had for years. Both are very reliable guns.

OK, I gotta ask: what purpose is served by lazer sights on a close-range/CCW gun?
People keep trying to trade me stuff with Crimson Trace sights, then telling me I'm an idiot for not wanting them. I've shot one with them (a 642 Smith), but just don't understand the utility. I was on target faster, and shot faster, using the barrel sights.
(And another questions--suppose my colorblindedness made a difference in this?)
Thanks,
Jim

Considering color blindness usually involves red I would say yes that might be a factor. I guess with site it depends upon what you are used to. If you are trying to look at other things besides a site picture then a laser dot can be useful. It's all about the situation you are in. I imagine these situations don't occur very often. It's all about having the coolest toy around. Who really needs a 600hp V-8 in their daily driver.

Jim that Kimber really punches my buttons. Those other two ain't half bad either.
I think the biggest advantage to laser sights just might be psychological. I'm pretty sure that that red dot dancing across my chest would intimidate the heck outa me. It also has some advantage in low light situations.

how do you like the kimber Jim? I've been eyeing one but just can't justify shelling out the $$ for one right now. Maybe you can help with that?

I really like the Kimber especially since it's lightweight. I've had several other 45's that were just too heavy to carry and this one is perfect. I've put 100 rounds through it and haven't had one jam. The laser sights are neat to use. Just put that red dot on what ever you want to hit and squeeze the trigger.

That's true only out to a certain distance, but most certainly effective in a room or house, next to your car in a parking lot, etc.
Nice piece, Jim. Kimber makes fine pistols.

A Para Ordnance .45 ACP, 10 + 1 WartHog compact.
24 oz unloaded.
Three dot luminous sights.

Charlie, that looks like about as good a compromise between concealability and power as you can get.

Brett, it's sweet, but it's not a pocket pistol.
I carry it in a hip paddle holster in cold weather or in an OD green vest that has special inside concealed carry pockets on both sides, plus elastic straps to hold extra magazines. I think it has room for SIX magazines. Who in Hell would need seven loaded magazines?

Charlie that’s a sweet Para Ordnance.

.....it looks roughly the same size as my Detonics....it only holds 6 in the mag + 1 in the pipe.

I really like my WartHog.
The photo I posted is from Para Ordnance's website.
The magazines I have have an extension on the bottom that gives the grip about an extra finger's breadth of length.
It points very well. Very nicely balanced.
They make a titanium, or some other lighter metal, model as well.
When I was younger, my Dad gave me a .25 cal Astra. I wish I still had that, or one like it.
Perfect pocket piece, in my opinion.

Other than being marked, "Kimber", that's pretty much like the holster I have for the WartHog.
Johnnie, I've never handled a Detonic before. Your's looks nice. I like the size. It's for sure a good deal lighter than mine, fully loaded.
I traded an Indian Arms, Detroit, MI. .380 and a little European folding trigger pocket revolver and some cash for the WartHog.
Indian Arms was only in business for about a year or two in the mid-70's. They made about a thousand pistols, mostly in stainless with beautiful walnut grips. Had a silver medallian on the grips similar to the old Savage chief logo.
Their pistols were essentially a Walther PPK in design, so Walther sued them for infringement and shut them down.
Beautiful pistols. Not many around. They have a bit of collector value, too.
I just wanted a good .45ACP. Couldn't afford, nor did I need to have both.
Here's a photo of an Indian Arms .380. I grabbed it off the internet. This was not my pistol, but like it. I did not have the original box. I probably would not have traded this little rig, had it been mine.
Left click to enlarge the photo.

Charlie...thanks for the info on Indian Arms,

I had never heard of them.....looks like a great little carry gun. I like it a lot.
I understand the collect ability...what do you think one in that condition would go for?

Johnnie, the gun in the pic is actually not as nice as mine was at the time I sold it. I guess the box and papers would add a bit of premium.
I sold mine to a dealer, so I guess I "wholesaled" it.
I think Flayderman's book puts about $400 -$450 on them. I didn't get that much. I probaly realized about $250.00 on it.
I originally traded an old blue Smith & Wesson break-top .38 S&W calibre DA revolver for the Indian Arms, even.
I think you'd love an Indian Arms .380, Johnnie.
I say they have "colector value", but to be honest, most guys don't know they even exist. So, I suspect the demand is low, but they only made about a thousand, so supply is low, too. That's why they're $400 + in Flayderman's.
