Hard to beat Ebony handles on an old knife

Here's a couple of recent Ebay items I posted in the Robeson Brand Specific thread, but as they both have ebony handles, I'll drop a shot or two of them here, too.

Thanks Dale, Robert and Lyle. Goins calls Naugatuck "one of the lesser cutlery concerns founded in Naugatuck, CT". In operation from 1872 to 1891. So I guess it could be considered somewhat of an obscure stamp?

For a working man`s knife that Boker has a lot of class!

That is a fine looking knife.

Here are two that I may or may not have posted before.The KK I just dug out and cleaned up a bit to EDC.Looks like a German made one by the steel pin.Blades aree pretty well sharpened and snap like a bear trap.The Fletcher Hardware knife was right beside it so that came out for a cleaning as well.Sorry for the bad pics;my camera batteries were going south.
A couple of curious things about these knives:
The KK has a small piece of back spring missing on the rear outside but it doesn;t seem to affect the operation of the knife.Looks like the heat treating might have been flawed and it broke when the knife was being assembled.
The Fletcher knife has a diamond stamped into the rear of the tang on the master blade and I'm wondering if this may have indicated a contract knife for whomever made the knife for them.Anyone ever seen this on a blade before?

Wiseguy, your always coming up with somthing like that!!! How do you do it?

K7K, that Fletcher Hdw. with the diamond sure is a new one to me - no doubt it came from the factory that way. Mr.Goin`s makes no mention of it. Wonder who it was made by? The swedge running all the way across the top of the nick reminds me of Catt but the angle of the tang on the pen blade looks more like NYKC - but the pull on the main is not consistant with the long pull NYKC is known for.

I am no where near being able to read a knife the way you and MB can. Can ya ponder a guess?

Joe:It looks a bit like a straight line Remington that I have construction wise.The time frame doesn't really fit though;the Remington is post 1933 and I think the Fletcher is much earlier.
The diamond might possibly indicate manufacture by Russell.The time line is right and I have a couple of Russells with similar scales and construction although they are pruners and not jacks.I also don't know if Russell ever made contract knives.
For the time being the mystery will remain just that.

It`s been quite a while since I found a nice Ebony handle knife, this one fits the bill.

Checkered Ebony handles.

I'd say,love that knife!

Checkering still looks crisp.What's your opinion on why most have grooved (rat tail) bolsters?

I really like this thread and it seems to just keep on going. It's not likely to die or go into long-term obscurity, as there are still a wealth of ebony handled knives out there.
