Ah Jerry, that's just crystal sunshine :)

I would wish for another round of snow down here but the total fallout of the local human race is too devastating. Nat'l guard had to come in over 2-3 inches, seriously.

It's all been gone for a while now and all that's left is wet muddy ground. :(

Got another 8" last night and early this morning.I went out at 7am to go to our bi-weekly old farts get-together and could barely get out of my driveway. Was supposed to paint a car in the next town but called and cancelled.Came back after breakfast and kicked around the house until the snow stopped around noon and went out to plow.
Got half done and the right rear tire lost air and the chain wrapped itself around the rear axle after my temporary fix broke.
Got it untangled and had to push it back to the shop because it had no traction with only one chain.Pulled my 55 Safari out(should've been driving that today;it has great traction in the snow!)and dragged the tractor inside.Repaired the chain with the original piece that bent and fell off and put it back together and finished the driveway.
Went out tonight and it is about -4 but no wind so it isn't too bad.No clouds so the temps are really headed south.Supposed to be in the teens all week and maybe some more snow Saturday. This is the most snow we've had since I moved out here 20 years ago.Glad I'm not living in Massachusetts anymore.Used to live right on the ocean and some of the storms we'd get would have hurricane force winds. My youngest lives in Lowell MA(about 35 mi north of Boston)and even he is fed up with the weather.
My friend Dick in Auburn Maine hasn't been out of his house in nearly a month because there is sheet ice under the snow and he can't plow his driveways. He doesn't care;he's got plenty of food;a backup generator and two project cars he's working on:one for his youngest son and one for himself. He'll probably try again in April.

Well, it is 1:45 PM and the snow was supposed to start at 3 PM.
Instead it started snowing about 9 AM and we have about 6 inches now, dry powdery snow.
All the State Offices closed about noon and my wife came home then.

I sure hope the weatherman as wrong about the freezing rain forecast for Saturday!!!
A layer of ice on top of 8 or 10 inches of snow will be devastating!

The view out my front door about 2 hours ago.

The first picture was taken from the front porch looking out to the street and my Expedition about noon. There was about 5-6 inches of snow on it then.

This picture was taken about 4 PM; there is about 8 or 9 inches on snow on the Expedition at that time.
Snow 2-7-14 b.JPG
I left for the grocery store & the pharmacy after I took this picture. I drove my wife's Envoy. When I got back home a couple hours later I was pushing snow with the undercarriage of the Envoy, and it is still snowing.

I know a lot of you have more snow and colder temps, but this weather has been the coldest here in 19 years and the most snow in the area in 15 years according to the TV.

Friday is garbage pickup day. The garbage can in the foreground has only been out there a few hours and the top was clean when I pushed it out to the street. It looks like 5 or 6 inches of new snow on it since they dumped garbage about 10:30 AM.

I think AL Gore should PAY US to put more CO2 into the atmosphere before the lack of CO2 causes a new ice age!!! :x

I just measured the snow on top of my barbeque (fortunately I have a cover over it); about 10 inches on my yardstick (9-3/4 inches). The most snow I have ever seen here, though not the record; the record was 27 inches in 1937.

We have a winter storm warning for 8 more inches of snow or up to ½ inch of ice according to the storm warning.
The official Storm Warning says:
* TIMING...A MIXTURE OF SNOW...SLEET...AND FREEZING RAIN WILL
INCREASE TODAY...CONTINUING INTO TONIGHT. SLEET AND FREEZING
RAIN WILL BECOME THE MORE DOMINANT PRECIPITATION TYPE IN MOST
AREAS AS THE EVENT PROGRESSES.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...UP TO 8 ADDITIONAL INCHES...WITH THE
HEAVIEST TOTALS GENERALLY ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE COAST
RANGE. AREAS WITH LESS SNOW WILL SEE MORE IN THE WAY OF ICE
ACCUMULATION.

* ICE ACCUMULATION...UP TO ONE HALF INCH.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE...SALEM...MCMINNVILLE...SANDY...SWEET
HOME...VERNONIA.

This usually means power outages when we get this much freeing rain.
If I am offline you will know why, we will be huddled around the fireplace!

Good luck getting through all of that dale. I've never experienced anything like that myself but it can't be much fun. Seeing the pictures of all that snow and hearing the stories is intriguing to me. One of these days I want to go north just to experience what it's like. Best wishes.

Come on up Robert!
In fact we can switch houses for a month or so. ::groove::
My wife and I are tired of winter, Florida sounds pretty inviting!

I just went outside and waded around in knee-deep snow to knock as much snow as possible off the low tree branches so they don't break when the ice starts to buildup. The snow in the street is up to the running board of my Ford Expedition. I measured it at 14 inches deep!

I just checked outside and it is up to 30 degrees and there is ice falling now forming a crust on top of the snow.
I think it will be a long weekend! ::bad_day::

NorthCentral Alabama to receive freezing rain, ice and snow beginning this afternoon/early evening through the night, tomorrow, tomorrow night and well into Wednesday.

Oh joy.

At least the ambient temp has been well above freezing all weekend, so the ground isn't pre-frozen this time.

It's 40 degrees here in Birmingham right now, but dropping rapidly. It's 28 just a few miles northwest of here.
