Hello Folks . Here’s some pics of yesterday’s Cinder City Days Car show in Altoona. It rained all morning and then just before the parade it stopped . So the parade went on and the crowd seemed to enjoy it . Car show attendance was down, the rain does keep some from bringing out there cars . Drove the Cream colored Buick and Jeff drove the Rolls Royce . What a blast! Driving the old Iron is just something else ,although the Armstrong steering gets harder as age creeps in .
Won’t post info,years,etc. if you have any questions please ask . Have to admit ,the Burnt Orange 65 Pontiac was my overall best choice. The Owner is a fellow Contractor/ Business owner in the Valley and spent 20 plus years going thru the old Pontiac . Think he said 65 was the first year for stacked headlights or maybe it’s 64. Maybe Steve W. will read this and clue me in correctly. Just a absolutely gorgeous build and save of a Iconic USA made Car .

Owning and maintaining an older automobile is a lot of work. The good news is they are typically easy to work on - if you can get parts. When I started my Model A recently, it was running great except one problem - the water pump is leaking. Tried tightening the packing nut to no avail, so replacing or rebuilding it are the only options. Turns out a look-alike replica with modern sealed bearings is just a few bucks more than a rebuild kit so I ordered one.

When I removed the old pump I discovered the old fan blade is cracked. Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere that has replacement fan blades in stock - for some reason they’re out of stock and on back order at all the usual suppliers. I’m concerned with trying to weld the old one since they have to be balanced. So I’ve got a replacement on back order. Meanwhile here she sits.

Mumblypeg, I suspect your replacement fan is sitting on a ship outside Long Beach or Shanghai. An item I ordered 4 months ago arrived yesterday.

You’re right on that. Talking to my local supplier (I started there first but she did not have a fan) she said most parts now come from China. I inquired about a replacement ammeter also, but she no longer carries them. Said the only supplier is in China and the quality is so poor she got tired of all the returns and dissatisfied customers. Her advice was “if you find someone that has any, buy two. That way you might get one out of the two that works.” Said when she complained about the poor quality she was told “do you want ammeters or not ?”

GTOs had stacked lights in '65, '66, and '67.

I don’t blame you, a Roadster Pickup would be nice! And rare. I’d like a regular pickup too. Recently saw a nice one for sale - asking price $28K.

Here’s some related trivia. Texas has required both front and rear plates since 1917 when they started requiring cars to be registered. Plates were issued annually with the vehicle registration, and the year was stamped onto the plates during manufacturing (by state prison inmates). But only from 1928 to 1930 were they stamped “front” and “rear”. My dad, who lived through that period, said at the time enforcement of the law requiring two plates on each car was lax. Some enterprising folks bought a set of plates, used one for their car and sold the other. So to prevent plates from being shared between two vehicles the state started stamping them “front” and “rear”.

Some say maroon was not one of the original factory colors. Other sources however say it was. The car belonged to my grandfather, but he bought it used. After my grandfather passed my dad completely restored it. Dad was an excellent “shade tree” mechanic and had friends and connections in the automobile restoration business. But his passion/hobby was restoring vintage ‘64-1/2 thru 67 Ford Mustangs. He had the Model A painted as you see it, since everything else is as original I assume the paint colors are also. Whoever he had do it, it’s a great paint job!

Now the "FRONT" stamping makes perfect sense. Montana at one time stamped their license plates "prison made."
