Great Pics, garddogg! We thank you for takin' us on that fine fishin' trip. Only problem I see, was I forgot my coat! What temperatures do y'all have this time of year?
It's in the mid 90's here but I found a picture on the game camera this mornin' that makes me want to be wearin' a coat about Thanksgiving mornin'!
1st picture is of a pair of twins that were born in October last year. We have pictures of them playing around the feeder when they still had their spots. Now they are quit different, one has a great 4 point rack for a 1st set of antlers and the other is more typical of a 1 year old buck, having unequal spikes.
2nd picture shows 2 good lookin' bucks that came by the feeder this morning. Maybe we'll get to look at them a little closer come huntin' season, like through a Redfield 3X9

Lookin' good Phil **
___
just went to my two ground stands (tents) & placed my chairs inside** ( bug sprayed the ground & tent good, about three weeks ago*** ) ___ put a bag of ""cedar shavings"" in each tent (helps with scent & bugs) ,then put out a 50 lb. bag of corn, scattered in the shooting lanes, with a little ""extra pile"" in spots !!!! I will hand scatter, 50 lbs. of corn every two weeks, till season opens ( Oct. 11 for guns ) --- looks like they are slowing down on the mineral licks ??? --- and the acorns will start falling near opening days ?? ---- will have to move around some, to keep em' guessing where I'm gona' be hidin' with my Browning**
____
have not been to our hunt club, since we planted the peas, clover, & buckwheat, three weeks ago in some small plots*** we have had some scattered showers,so hoping it will germinate & give us a good growth, by October --- I'll try to remember to take along the camera for pictures, but my"memory brain cell" is in bad shape
good luck,___Monk***

PS___(below)___ made me a shooting tripod for each ground stand --ol'folks like me, need a little help to steady the "crosshairs"

Garddogg - That looks like a beautiful place to fish. And a beautiful mess o fish, too! Just being out fishing is a treat, actually catching fish is even better.
Treefarmer - Nice deer! At least I can detect a slight foretaste of summer's end. Certain plants indicate the change of season: Jaquemontia (a wild morning glory) always grows vigorously just as summer is ending. Yesterday I noticed it was covering a dwarf tree in my garden.

I think I'm going to let the fatwood hounds loose on our next mission!! (That'll be my grandsons......I think I'll stop walking and tell them to find me some fatwood and point like a bird dog when they do!!).

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Well, I invited another youngster to join us. Originally scheduled for 5, but one had an attitude problem with mom and dad and was made to stay home
I heard, once he was informed he WOULD NOT be allowed to go on the mission, his attitude changed instantly and he became an angel.
His parents held firm and would not allow him to go. They made a good move. Now they have that card to play!
Tore down last years fort and constructed another with little if any help from me. Then they wanted to sharpen sticks (what kid doesn't
). We had 2 cuts in 5 minutes in......

Scott, you're dealin' with what sounds like some good folks! It's great to hear of parents holding the line and not givin' in! Way too much "bark with out bite" goin' on
. Real consequences for one's actions is a wonderful tool for raising children. Guess you had plenty of Band-aids
. Did y'all find any lighter knots?

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Looks like fun as usual Scott! You ever run across any snakes on your missions? During my brief time living in the swamp down in Florida I was seeing snakes all over. Every time I would have to dig through a brush pile or gather fire wood I would knock around in there with a long stick first....always on the lookout...
...Here's a pic of a brightly colored Northern Leopard Frog I found hiding nestled amongst the weeds while tearing out my garden this morning, cool lookin' fella I thought...

Too bad you do not see more. I always love seeing snakes in the wild. Some folks like to kill them, but I just observe. Most boys will be fascinated by any wild animal, and snakes (other than black racers) are easier to observe than most animals.TripleF wrote:Sorry, we don't allow snakes on our missions![]()
