Picked this one up earlier in the week. A Camillus 697 Marlin Spike Knife. Didn't have one in my Camillus Rope Knife group, so added it to the family. It has the Camillus Stainless USA tang stamp, and Delrin handles.
This was a working knife and had a lot of crud and what looked like pitch or hard tar in the blade well and in the spike lock lever. The Marlin Spike lock was not functioning due to a lot of crud in it. Soaked it in a mixture of WD-40 with a coffee dipper (about two tablespoons of kerosene mixed in and heated it with a heat lamp. After a day, was able to get most of the gunk out and free up everything. Cleaned the blades and polished them and the bolsters. No looseness in the spike or blade and both have excellent snap now. Blade does have some scratches, and needs sharpening and dressed a bit.

Appreciate it Skip. I really need to start taking "Before" photos. But my "Cleaning" & "Make a knife functional" OCD side kicks in and I overlook that part.

My latest CAMILLUS pocket knife for my collection. It's a CAMILLUS 72, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, short line, first generation, "whittler" pocket knife.

On that Western/Camillus--is that a stainless master, carbon secondary?
