Detonics is a great little(big)gun.I've owned my Mk1 for about 25 years now and wouldn't part with it for anything.Mine is one of the first couple hundred made.They bought 1911 frames and cut them down and welded them back together again.If you look closely at the frame,you can spot the welding.Didn't affect the performance any.They use combat sights and if you know where your gun likes to shoot(mine shoots low and right),they are extremely accurate.If i'm target shooting,I aim at the upper left corner of the target(at 50 ft)and can pretty much keep them in the center every time.
It was my everyday carry for many years and now is relegated to home defense.Six rounds of 85 grain Glasers and I'm set for just about anything.
As an aside;I picked up a neat piece today:a solid brass shotgun cleaning rod made by Faries Mfg Co. of Decatur IL.Three sections and the bottom section unscrews to expose a straight screwdriver.The handle furhter unscrews and inside is a Cushman gun oiler.Still researching the company but they started in 1894 making a wide variety of items.Still don't know when they went out of business.Price was right:$9.60 plus tax.
What is neat about it is it can also be used as a mahl stick.This is used by sign painters to rest their painting hand on so they won't smudge the lettering they are painting.As a semi-retired sign artist I have several of these;one of which is an ancient one made by the Bridgeport Gun Implement Co.before 1900.

That cleaning rod is really neat. And what a bargain at that price. Would the cleaning tip screw onto the short rod as a handgun cleaning rod? Very nice stuff.

Yes that is the way they made the early ones.Later models were stainless steel and they made their own frames.One of the more interesting Detonics models was chambered for .451 Detonics Magnum.Unfortunately that round was never made commercially.What they did was sell you the gun;a bullet mould;and two hundred empty rifle casings(I don't recall what caliber they were);and a sizing die.You then cast your own bullets and cut down and sized the casings and loaded your own rounds.All this for about $1200! Not surprisingly they didn't sell too well.
As for using the rod to clean pistols;I doubt it would work.The tip has a standard(I believe)1/4-28 thread but the flange on the end is about 5/8ths of an inch in diameter.It might fit a black powder pistol(.58 caliber)but I doubt it.

Ya gotta love 'em Johnnie;their great guns. That wooden one you have is great and even in the box! I have a couple of those but not anywhere near that condition.I use them as mahl sticks.The only problem I've had with them is if you tighten them too much the staking that holds the brass pieces to the wood comes loose and they flop around a bit.I cured that by squeezing in wood glue around the staking.

I'm diggin those detonics' , how's the size compare to a officers model colt?

Smaller and shorter.....from the end of the barrel to the back of the slide is 6 inches....and from the bottom of the mag to the top of the slide is 4 1/4 inches.

One of the down sides I've found is that if you have large hands it can be difficult to shoot as your small finger hangs off the bottom of the grip.This can cause inaccuracies in shooting.
To remedy this(and I strongly caution against doing this in an emergency situation),I will use my middle finger as my trigger finger and lay my index finger along the side of the frame.this makes for better aiming and target acquisition but you have to be very careful that your finger is below the slide or you will get hurt.
I use this strictly for target shooting.

And that is exactly why I have the magazines with the bottom extension that gives me a place for that little finger.

No, it only goes on one way and it shoots nicely set up like that.

The only tweak I had to do was add a shim under the mount to tighten it up.

The optics mount is very similar to an AKM type.

The MAS49/56 rifle is a great rifle, the French got it 100% right.

Yep Blue it's the .45 ACP. My second pistol in that caliber. Can't wait to hear it pop.

Johnnie the P 345 is a bit shorter and slimmer than the P 90 and has a more ergonomic design. It's also a bit lighter as well, but the differences are not huge in any area.

Yeah...that one looks a lot nicer than the P 90's..
