Picked up Vince Flynn's "Extreme Measures" this last trip to the library. I try to read them in sequence. I haven't started it yet.

Right now, I'm slogging through a new author that was recommended by some lady at the library. It's a mystery/thriller by Peter May, "Blacklight Blue". I'm about halfway through it. Not too bad so far.

I started out reading a couple out of sequence but than I fell into sequence, reading one after another. I am currently on 'Protect and Defend' which leaves me with 2 to go. Really good series and I hate to see it end.

Picked up "The Pacific War 1941 to 1945" by John Costello at an LGS that was running a used book sale for reasons unknown to me. Picked up a few titles along the same lines but started with this one. Gives some insight into the personalities and issues involved with our allies as well as our enemy in all op areas including CBI as well as the general battle details. I'm up to the conclusion of the battle of Leyte Gulf.

Reading the second Walt Longmire book now, "Dying Without Company"

Not too far into this book, but so far it's great.

I am currently reading The Greatest Story Ever Told, written by Fulton Ousler, a former senior editor at Reader's Digest.

This is the book from which the 1962 screen play and motion picture were taken.

Mr. Ousler started the book in 1935, but did not publish it until the late 1940's. I suspect WWII might have interfered.

He started a weekly radio broadcast, sponsored, I believe, by B. F. Goodrich and broadcast a live radio play of excerpts from the book. Goodrich's sponsorship was mentioned at the beginning of the program and again at the end, but no advertisements of their product occurred and the program was broadcast without interruption.

For anyone with even a passing interest in the story of Jesus, this is quite simply, a fantastic book that I would like to see published anew.

I am still working on the Vince Flynn series and nearly thru them all. I just heard an advertisement for a 'new' Mitch Rapp book titled SURVIVOR. A new guy has authored the book but Flynn's name is still on the cover along with the new guy.
Anybody read this one or have any info on it? I went to Amazon and read what little they publish on the plot but nothing on the background.
Wonder if Vince Flynn (or family) approved? Wonder if Flynn owned the character name or does the publisher own a character name?

Ray, I think I read somewhere that the publisher owns the Mitch Rapp character name. I'm a big fan of the series and although sceptical, I am gonna have to try out the new one when I get a chance. Just finished "Endangered", the latest C.J. Box mystery in his Joe Picket series. He just keeps getting better with each book. Now I'm about 4 chapters into "Rebel Yell", the biography of Stonewall Jackson by S.C. Gwynne. Gwynne wrote "Empire of the Summer Moon" which was great so thought I'd try his newest one. So far it's outstanding.

Unk, I saw you guys bragging on Elmer Kelton so I thought I'd give him a try. Right now, I'm making my way through "The Day The Cowboys Quit". I keep hoping it'll pick up some but so far it hasn't. I'm on page 57 out of 227. I'm going to stick with it until at least page 100. I think that's a fair trial.

I had the same problem with the 1st one I read. I laid it back for a couple of years and when I went back to it, I found it quite good.

Jerry, "The Good Old Boys" started off a little slow, too, but I stuck with it. Glad I did.

It's the first Elmer Kelton book I've read. I enjoyed it enough that I'll buy more.

I've slipped on past page 100 and have paused at page 120 for the game tonight. There's no stopping now. I'm headed for the finish line.

I just finished ' Killing Jesus ' by O'Reilly , I highly recommend it .
Reading Tony Hillerman ' A Thief Of Time ' Good books if you like crime stories and appreciate the mystique of Arizona and New Mexico. Next one will be Skeleton Man .

Just finished the Ty Cobb bio titled "Cobb". Very interesting read. If you are a baseball fan you should read this. Have started reading some early Nelson DeMille novels published in one book that includes Cathedral (Irish terrorists vs. NYPD), By the Rivers of Babylon (Arab terrorists vs Israel)), and Word of Honor (Vietnam). A re-read. Recommend this author if you haven't found him yet.

Reading Lee Child's "Without Fail" one more time
