When it comes to semi-auto handguns, only manufacturer I buy. Not that the others don't make a quality firearm, but given my previous 226 experience, i am sold on the high quality and performance.

This week I am looking at the SIG 556 rifle. Trying to decide which model I want. If anyone wants to give their input on which model they think I should consider, here is the link.

Jerry I like all the SIG model except one. The SIG 250 two tone. I've owned many different models of SIGS and they were great pistols but that model 250 was the worst semi auto pistol I've ever seen. It was a NIB pistol when I got it. It would jam if not every shot then every other shot. It shot like lightning strikes, never hitting close to the same place twice. I changed magazines (5 different ones), recoil springs, polished the feed ramp and nothing helped that pistol. I guy had been wanting to trade me out of it so I traded it to him for a small framed 9MM Glock that was NIB and is a nice CCW. I told him about all of the SIGS problems but he still wanted it. A couple of weeks after he owned it he told me it was the worst pistol he had ever owned. He traded it off too.

Know anything about this one? DOA, 6 shot and no hammer spur to get caught on your clothes if a CCW gun.

Only other SIG I own besides the previous 226 and the 226 I have now is the SIG PRO 2340. 40 cal and can be converted to .357SIG with just a barrel change, same mags. Very dependable and accurate as is the 266. Just not as smooth on the decocking lever. Polymer frame is Swiss made.

Just hoping the gun you had was a one off and not the norm for that model. Did you contact SIG about it? Just curious as I have had no issues so I have yet to contact them. Just wondering how well they stand behind there products as far as service, etc.

Know anyone who has owned their rifles? I heard from a few owners that the are top notch.

Wow, you're a brave man, takin' out 4 little fellers, 4 and under! And a real pro, if ya made it through the day without having to pull any hooks out of your earlobes! I've become pretty artful at dodging them wayward hooks, myself.

No matter, even ONE under the age of 10 can be quite an adventure! Even so, a day out fishin' with the boys, is still one of the finer things in life. Good for you, bud!!

Get em cane poles--that's all George would allow till we got around 10 yrs. old of course that was back in the 60's don't even see em for sale around hear any more--Had to tie em to the side of the Bisquayne

I think BassPro still sells cane poles, i'm pretty sure they're 2 or 3 piece ones though.
Grandpa started me out with willow saplings. I never had to resort to using safety pins for hooks, but he did make homemade bobbers from cork bottle stoppers back then. From there I graduated to the Zebco 202, then the 404 and finally the holy grail of kids reels, the shiny silver 33!

Heck, I was in my teens before I realized they actually made reels that you didn't have to dunk in the lake every few casts.

My grandpa kept a supply of cane poles hanging out in the garage for when us kids come visitin'. He cut his poles from down in the canebrake. He had two little ponds and both were full of Bluegill. The one closest to the house wasn't more than about 4 feet deep but it provided hours of entertainment for a wild bunch of young colts.

My folks got my first rod & reel for me with trading stamps. It was an inexpensive casting reel and that's when I learned about backlash and how to clear it. The first reel I bought for myself was a Zebco 202 I got when I was in my 20s. Fun memories.

WOW, good memories guys......thanks for sharing.

As best I can recall I used a cream and brown Zebco or something like that when I was little.
I don't know if I ever had my own fishing pole or we all just used Dad's.

I hope my grandkids have better memories than I do. They each left with a fishing pole from Poppy...

Scott, I think I remember Zebco coming out with a 202 that was brown and tan. The earliest ones were all black, but at some point they made 'em in a forest green also. I still have one of each in the green and black.
BTW don't worry, them youngn's will remember!

Jerry, you were in your 20's before you got your first 202?! Man, you were a late bloomer!!!

Sorry for taking so long to respond to you Jerry but I've been tied up with stuff. The Sig model 250 is the only Sig model I've ever had any problem with. All the other models worked as they should. Sig wouldn't do anything warranty because I got it from the second owner. I didn't lie to them and tell them I bought it new. From the way the Sig rep. talked to me, the problematic Sig model 250 was not a surprise to him. I took it that they have had other complaints about the design/operation/dependability of the model 250 before mine. I would not have another Sig model 250 as a gift (unless I knew I wouldn't own it more than 1 hour and I knew I could go straight and trade it for another N.I.B. Glock, or a BB gun or a good slingshot.).

One of my customers held a sporting clays tournament yesterday and I was invited to attend - had a great time and it was actually cool enough to wear a windbreaker all morning. Used my waterfowl gun so I could sharpen my eye for the upcoming duck season.

Fun catch Monk! But, fishin' for Bass and catchin' a Carp.

Don't ya wish just once it'd work the other way around? Take a can of corn out to catch carp, and end up with a 15 lbs. Bass? Oh well, looks like ya had a good time, anyway.
