vikingdog is from a breed of dog, the Norweigian Elkhound or Norsk Älghund. I rescued a dog some years ago and assumed she was a mixed breed then found out she was a pureberd Elkhound. They were kept as pets by the Vikings. Beautiful, noble and very loyal dogs. Good thread!

I seem to have a problem with leaving "safe queens" in the safe. I have a few that i will never use because they are too special. But for the most part, a knife has to function and perform as a knife in my book. Built for show and go. So eventually i end up using them

Re: YOUR USERNAME
Years ago I was signing up on another forum. It wouldn't accept my usual handle, or various nicknames, or multitudinous profanities (in several languages). I finally started typing in stuff at random: computer, keyboard, coffeecup . . . and finally got in. Since I almost always have a cup of coffee around, it fits.
Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)

Re: YOUR USERNAME
Well, frog/the frog/froggy (frosk, frosken in Norwegian) is a nickname that has followed me for as long as I can remember, mostly because my first name begins with an "F".
I don't remember who said it first, but someone had borrowed a knife from me and was impressed with the edge, so he asked me if I could sharpen his knife, saying something like "can you put the frog's edge on it?"
The term stuck, and hence, yours truly...

Re: YOUR USERNAME
Back in my slightly younger and wilder days. ( the wilder part shut down 6 years ago when I decided to get married at the tender age of 51) I had several bar stools in town with my name on them. One of the establishments that I frequented with frightening regularity was also a haven for a lot of gents from the UK.
I've been known as Willie for most of my life and as these lads were many years my junior they referred to me as Old Willie to differentiate me from a a much younger Willie that also hung out there. However, when they pronounced OLD WILLIE, it always sounded like OWED WOOLY. Iliked the looks of OWD WULLIE better.

Bill, I thought you were "cc" because you forward or C.C. so many emails.CCBill wrote:At one time I owned over 400 Case Classics, hence the "ccbill"...

6 years ago I retired from the State of Oregon Employment Department where I worked as a Veteran's Representative. I am also a US Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam. I have been active in helping veterans (both professionally and on a volunteer basis) for about 25 years. I am a Native Oregonian (one of 4367 left, and half of them are my relatives),

So when I needed a forum name, Oregon Veteran was too long, so I shortened it to orvet.
This is a great thread!

Thanks Dale, I always thought you used to work in an Operating Room!
As for me, when I used to run a cabling crew years ago, one of my workers was a laid-back dude, and one day he just started calling me Glennbad. It is my user name on all the forums I am on.

Re: YOUR USERNAME
I was about 12 years old when my father took me to a rattlesnake roundup in mangum, tx. I seen about a million of them through out the weekend. I ate rattlesnake meat when I was there. I started running a cb in my car when I was 16 and of course my handle on it was rattlesnake. I have been nicknamed rattlesnake since that time. I have drove a truck(18 wheeler for the past 15 years) and rattlesnake has always been my handle. P.S--I do team drive with my aging father(his nickname is sidewinder). The case sidewinder was his favorite knife. I believe when it is meant to be it is. I was born in 1975. Yes, I can spell. Normally on my accounts the rattlesnake is always taken therefore I shortened it, with just one t. RATLESNAKE75---THX MARK

Mine's from the Asimov Robot novels, my favorite character was R. Daneel Olivaw. R. is for robot, so I adopted that for my on-line persona several years ago.
