Thank you Stan for the quick response;it is greatly appreciated. When I purchased it the person I got it from said it was French but he didn't know who made it.He brought approximately 100 of these into the USA with the proviso that the receivers be sawed in two so as to make them totally inoperable. This way they could be declared a DEWAT(De-Activated War Trophy). This was so they could be sold without requiring any type of firearms permit. They did come with the bolt assembly(firing pin was welded)but the section of receiver was omitted. The piece I had made will not allow the bolt to be installed(inside diameter is smaller)and it is of a material that is inferior for supporting the operation of the weapon.
Supposedly a couple of them were made to function but I do not know that for certain.I would hesitate to attempt firing a weapon that was re-constructed by someone with limited knowledge of gun design.
Anyway it makes a nice wall hanger even though I don't display any of my firearms anymore.

I've got a sterling silver Zippo lighter that was hand-engraved (old school - hammer and chisle) by an engraver by the name of Joseph. Joseph is his full legal name. In the 60's or 70's he was the master engraver for Winchester Repeating Arms Co. and was also the one that did the restorations on the vintage guns that came into the shop. When he retired, his tools went to the Cody Museum in Wyoming. I'll come back and post some pics of his work as an edit to this post.

Here's a link to his other gun engravings. Don't know if it will work without being signed in but you can try.

It's a LOT more fun when somebody else is buying the ammo.

Great stuff guys!!

Stan, I got my bottom blistered by my dad when I was 6 years old after I traded my Hop-Along Cassidy wrist watch for broom handle Mauser like yours. My father thought it was a bad trade. ::dang::

The kid I traded with got his rear end roasted by his dad too as it was his dad's gun.

Johnnie, how do you compare your Beretta 40 to the S&W 40 you had?? I have been looking a a Beretta for some time now. They are a breeze to take apart and clean but only a one year warranty I hear.
