Put a new picture up as they should be introducing the patterns today at the Shot Show.

i just got my copies of the two catalogs that will form the basis of these new schatts.
although i really like the gist of these "vintage" reproductions, i think they should rethink the notion of basing each series on a single page of the catalog.
the reason for my misgivings is the fact that the knives in the catalogs are organized by type.
in other words, one page will have nothing but two-blade jack knives, another page will have nothing but pearl-handled congress knives, etc.
do they really want to put out a series that consists of nothing but 5 slightly different pearl-handled congress knives?
other than that, i think these new schatts will be awesome.
i emailed queen last week requesting information on blade steel, length of time between series, etc, but haven't heard anything yet.
i'll update when i get a response.
i REEEEEEAAAALY hope they use 1095 rather than 420hc for these.
it would be much more fitting for turn-of-the-century reproductions.

They are indeed 1095. And although they are only making 300 sets starting with the Heritage Series, I still suspect they will be one set yearly; but they may go to two yearly.

great news, mike!
btw, i compared the three knives you showed to page 5 of the 1903 catalog, and they look very, very close.
even the shields are the same!
i am really excited about these!

gmusic wrote:W.R.Case made the first four of patterns from the Classic series in house. The Saddlehorn, Gunboat Canoe, Trapper and the Congress. When an unfortunate turn of events caused Jim to file for bankruptcy he sold W.R Case but kept the rights to the Classics project. That is how Queen became involved.
That is not correct.
Queen was involved from the start. Queen made the initial prototypes and they also made many of the initial patterns and production knives. The earliest ones were the Case/Winchester 91 sleeveboard two blade, the three blade 91 whittler, and the 050 big coke bottle, all made by Queen. Several more queen made patterns were produced then. Case actually got involved later during and after the Case/Parker bankruptcy.
Case made four patterns - the 100 saddlehorns, the 54 trappers, the 94 gunboats, and the 88 congress patterns. All others were made by Queen.

I thought some of the Case Classics were made by Bluegrass. Is that a Queen company?

blue grass cutlery is a distribution company.
they don't make anything themselves, although the like to insinuate that they do.
queen made the winchester knives distributed by blue grass, too.

i'll be getting the ebony set as well.
schatt's quality level has not been what it was a few years ago.
the last two annual series, along with most of their recent sfo's, have been very well below their previous standards.
i'm hoping the heritage series will allow them to slow down a bit and recapture the magic they had for so many years.
right now, gec is eating their lunch on the quality front, but i'd really like to see schatt get back in the running for "finest-quality production knife company."
they've been there before - i think they can get there again.
