I've had luck putting items in my wishlist. They're stored there, unless pulled by Ebay, for future reference.

I wouldn't depend on ebay for any information you want to keep longer than about 90 days. Many of the pictures in ebay ads are not stored by ebay - the pictures are just links to outside image websites that are controlled by the seller, not ebay. If the seller deletes the picture, it disappears from the ebay listing. I have seen pictures disappear a couple of days after the auction ends.

I'm lost (a frequent event according to my wife). How does this prevent anyone from being a victim of counterfeiting? Maybe there's a trick I'm missing? ::shrug::

Just my method for tracking EBay, after posting is over, in case I want to reference item later, or follow bids, etc.

Ok I got that. Still don't follow how this has anything to do with counterfeiting. Are you saying it helps determine if a knife is counterfeit? If so, how? This thread is about counterfeits and how to help others not fall victim to them. I'm trying to learn if there's some technique I'm missing that could help me or others identify and avoid buying counterfeits ::shrug::

Sorry if I'm just dense. ::facepalm::

One issue: who owns the photos on Facebook or eBay or whatever site they are from?

Couldn't this be an issue for AAPK?

The easiest way would be to upload the pictures to a webhosting site like IMGUR.com

It depends who took the picture, but precedent basically says no. AAPK is not using their pictures to market a product or a brand, and never claimed them to be their own. Intellectual product is usually owned by whoever created it, aka took the picture, unless they produced it while working under contract for someone else.

One thing I learned in writing my books is if a picture is in the "public domain" and has no copywrite restrictions attached to it, it can be reproduced. Another consideration is do you intend to profit from someone's work. I use company logo's all the time on my website to link to that company for information such as history. My website is non-profit because I don't sell or gain anything.

Like the pictures on Google Maps, they have the warning at the bottom that "images MAY BE subject to copywrite" but up at the top are the buttons to print or share the picture, so they're in the public domain and available for use. It can get confusing but I believe we're okay in this situation, it's simply for discussion. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Here's an H. BOKER and Co the seller claims is authentic according to some unnamed 90 year old who is a 75 collector and former owner. Beautiful knife I'd say, fake or legit.

Won't let me copy image, but check the link.

Nobody bothers to post an actual picture of the knife in Question from the listing.

I would like to suggest that if you are concerned about a particular knife, post a link to the auction AND a picture or two of the actual knife you are discussing.

Reason? Well after 60 days the auction link is no longer valid and if someone wants to review the archives in this forum they cannot see what the knife looks like that was being discussed.

I have recently begun posting pictures of recent knives being discussed, I wish everyone would do the same.

Good idea? Bad idea? Let me know what you think ::nod::

I had trouble a while back copying images from ebay, but, came up with a method that works. I have all of the pics from the auction you posted the link to. Here are a couple:

I have 22 of the 23 pics from the auction saved on my desktop. I can start a thread in this topic and post them all, if anyone wishes?
I use an old (2011) iMac and my method for snipping pictures is:
press the shift, command and number 4 keys all at the same time. A crosshairs symbol comes up on my screen. I use the crosshairs symbol to outline the pic, and when I release the mouse button, after outlining the pic, it is automatically copied to my desktop.

Thanks bud, appreciate you getting pics. I do this on my phone and I tried everything. Also saved them to my photo gallery, but they still won't copy or show up when I go to paste. Everything works until I try to paste. Then nothing, like a freeze up except nothing else freezes. Thanks again for the pics bud. ::handshake:: Olde Cuttler made me think this is another fake given the never seen before stamp that even pros haven't seen. What say you?

The Boker book by Neal Punchard and Ricky Ray does not show that stamp at all. If you want comments on this knife you should probably post it as a new topic in this forum. I will be happy to add the pictures.

I cannot speak to the authenticity of the knife, but I do have a few observations:
The pivot pin looks to have been replaced. That and the gaps around the springs makes me think it might have been taken apart before.
The tangs look original. I am unfamiliar with those stamps, but the metal appears to have age on it. The rest of the blades look far more polished than the tangs, so I believe that it has been cleaned up with a Scotchbrite belt. The backside of the main tang shows some machine marks.
The stag looks old, and beautiful. But it and the bolsters have been overly polished.
Legit? Cobbled? Repaired? I don't know, but it is beautiful. I would not pay what they are asking, but I do enjoy looking at it b

Thanks a ton Danno, you just confirmed what I suspected. I looked at every tang chart I could find, found none like this. Plus it looks too shallow, unlike any stamp I've ever seen. Thanks for the confirmation.

I ended up getting the knife knowing the main stamp already to not be correct, it’s a nice knife and quite a handful at 4-1/2” closed. Some fabulous looking stag on it.

Beauty Clark, no denying. That's why I wanted to buy it too, but couldn't after finding out the truth. Unlike these two. I had no idea these were fakes until after buying when I posted these as new pick ups here at AAPK. Then the nay votes came in. I had a hard time believing because they are so well made, such beautiful vintage Roger's bone-like, so smooth in the action and walk, talk, centering F&F, transitions. And I still don't get how these fakers build such a sweet knife and can still profit by selling them for $60. The Bridge was a little more, but the Elder Mfg was $60. Why not put their own name on it then and have a legit business? They are excellent knives I only post so others may learn without it costing them so many dollars. But you knew going in. These are so good I would feel bad if someone down the line thinks they are real. There is a market for fake Rolex, fake Calvin Klein, fake Chris Reeves. I don't want that. Chris Reeves and Rolex earned their reputation. The fakers did not, they are preying on it. Unethical and fraudulent to cash in on someone like Bokers hard earned reputation to artificially increase the price of a fake knife and calling it a Boker. I saw what that sold for and felt bad someone paid so much. But if you know, your choice. I just don't want to support counterfeiting. Avoid it if I know it. Others results may vary.

I agree totally about the evils of counterfeiting. Why not post them in the counterfeit forum as a new topic for discussion? Instead of appending them onto a general thread about how to make the discussion of counterfeits better? ::shrug:: Maybe going back and reading the first several posts in this thread would help. Or even the thread title. As it is now this thread is completely off the rails. JMO
