Was doing a little "thread mining" this morning, looking to see if there was a thread devoted to Doctor Knives. Found this one and wanted to pass on a little information to Ted.

Ted -- The one outlined in your picture is not a Doctor Knife. It's an S&M 042-297, #7 in the 2005 Premier Series, Schatt & Morgan called it an English Jack. It's way too small for me to call it an English Jack but it's a very classy knife. I have one and have a very high regard for it.

Schatt & Morgan called this one a Doctor's Knife but I wouldn't call it that. It's a 051-297 in the 2010 Keystone Series XX.

The only one I have is old, used and broke, but I just cant get myself to do anything with it because it is so old and other than the broke bone it is very nice old Winterbottom bone jig. It is a old Shatt&Morgan that still has some good walk and talk in hear.
I'm almost ashamed to post it after looking at some of your guys knives, very nice bunch fellow's.

If I could only have one, either of those old soldiers would do for me.

Just quickly went through this thread.I got fooled at first,again,it's not the first time.Sometimes ,when a old thread pops up ,I'll read several posts before I realize some of these fellows are no longer actively posting.I was going to say how great it was to see Brett and Kathy again,I miss 'em.

Great two knives Time and Tide. I have a question.Is the length of frame on the older knives, like the great old knives shown, proportioned to the blades as such. That Boker spear blade looks rather full,but sets a long way from the end of the nest. Maybe trick photography.

I wondered the same thing when I found the knife wlf. I thought the spear blade had just been heavily used, because it looks a little short sittin in the frame. I am no expert though, it may have been made that way.

When I moved from casual accumulator to a more active roll, the Docs were my first passion. Mostly Case because they were the most common and then their quality went down hill and they dropped the secondary blade. I picked up some fixed blades for a while but then.........

Then I discovered the Camillus 72 and it's clones and the die was cast.

Jerry pointed me to this very old thread for Doctor’s knives. I haven’t seen many Doctor’s knives being posted so thought I would bring this one back up. Thanks Jerry for showing me this. I hope some folks will post their Doctor’s knives as well. I’ll start it back up w/ this one I just got. A Marbles MSA, made by Queen, design by Dave Shirley. These Marbles knives were made around 2000 for a couple of years. This one is amber bone stag, one of the prettiest Dr’s knives I have seen.

I do not even have 1 doctor's knife. Well, you can't collect every knife.

This Marbles Doc is one of the Chinese varieties. This Colt is also Chinese. This Chinese Steel Warrior was a gift from my cousin.

There are some spectacular Dr’s knives out there. This is my last one that I have, as far as I can remember. It’s a Case amber bone with peach seed jigging. This was one of the pilot test runs for the Doctor’s knives when they came out of the vault back in 2018, I think it was 2018. This has a very classic look to it.

What can one say about that one other than stupendous.

I figured I would find at least one more Dr’s knife in my collection and sure enough. This is an A.G. Russell Dr’s knife. Done in stag w/ stainless blades, bolsters, pins and liners. I like the scalpel design of the secondary blade on this one I could see the usefulness of that blade for a lot of things. Unfortunately this is one of those that he had made in China. The run up is pretty close to what you see on the Japanese made knives but not quite to that level. You can see a small gap between the secondary blade and the backspring in the photo. The main blade run up is very tight.
I like that he has a strike pin for the blades to hit when you close it. Keeps the blade from slapping the backspring, which is good because it snaps like a snapping turtle.

Picked up another Marbles Northwoods Doctor’s knife. Saw it, made an offer and it was accepted to my surprise. I like this red stag bone.

Mark, I went for a long time paying little attention to run-ups until you introduced the subject and showed what was possible as demonstrated by the Japanese knives. Now it is almost the first thing I check and consider it a primary marker of precision fit. Thanks for the education.
