All About Pocket Knives

Mine came in before Christmas. I really like the size, a little bigger than the Queen Country Cousin and I like that the pull is both smoother and slightly lighter than my #73 Jigged Cherry that I've been using. The factory edge wasn't that sharp but it was enough to break down all the boxes after Christmas. I put my own edge last week. The O1 is now hair popping sharp and did a much better job yesterday. The pictures are from when I first got it. The backspring on mine is starting to darken a bit but the liners and blade still look like new. Overall, I really like the knife and its now replaced my #73 as my work around the house knife. I like the orange too.

The #73 is an all time favorite and knowing that the #71 is close in size is great. I think that the #71 will be great for skinning deer and other such critters next season.
The orange scales don't bother me in the least, I know it's not great popcorn stag like the others, but it's a work knife.

Thanks Caleb. The #71 and #73s are the same size lengthwise but the #71 is thicker than the #73. The Queen CC is smaller overall but thicker than the #71 making it one fat little knife

I like that the #71 is slimmer than Queens soddy, I like a slim knife. Even when I'm working a blade hard I like the handle to be small/slim enough for me to wrap my fingers around. Also, I hate carrying something too noticeable in the pocket, it makes for an uncomfortable day. I have high expectations for this knife and I think it will succeed.

I got mine in and wow. I must join the select few who got this knife, in saying thats it's perfect.
Is it too soon to say maybe I now own the "one"? Yes, but I think this one has the prospects of being very close.

First off, the open is as smooth as it gets without sacrificing snap and when this knife snaps, it's like a gator.




This knife has a wicked sharp edge that is ready for work straight from the package. It's in my pocket right now and it really isn't all that noticeable, it's a lot like the #73. This knife looks like a wicked skinner, so I can see some field tests in it's future. The scales are a really nice orange and I think will be perfect for hunting/working.

Glad you finally got it Caleb, your making me want one now.

Yeah, thats an organically grown Pittsburgh croc, pulled it out of the Allegheny a couple years back.
Caught 'em on some kielbasa and perogies if I recall correctly.

How about the 0-1 tool steel?
I really like it, I put my own edge on it and it is serving me well.
This is sharp enough for me.


I decided to test the blade with some cardboard cutting today. I started off with light cardboard, actually it was just a cereal box. I sliced it down till there was nothing to slice, then I tested the edge. It still popped hairs off my arms and left me with a smooth patch. The edge would slice through paper with ease, but it wasn't as scary sharp as when I first got it. After that I moved onto some shipping cardboard, it's a good bit thicker and proved to be more of a challenge. But, the thin blade still screamed through it and I had a useable edge afterwards. It would take hair off and slice paper, but it started to loose it's perfect factory edge. I have it in my pocket right now and I trust that it would continue to be sharp enough for most jobs. As long as it's taking hair off my arm, I trust it. So far so great, I'm liking the 0-1 a lot. It reminds me of the 1095, it's all good.

Caleb, you'd better start testing it on yer face before you run out of arm hair. Shaved legs ain't attractive on a man.

Caleb; How would ya say the #71 stacks up to the Case Soddie Jr.as a working knife I know your a user and that 71 won't be a safequeen??

GD, so far I'm really liking it, especially in comparison of the sodbuster Jr. It's just a little bit bigger, but enough to be my size.


The frame is also a good bit different, the Bull Nose is much more finished and is smoother, so that is a nice bonus. I didn't have a Soddy Jr with a CV carbon blade, but I like this 0-1 better than the other CV knives I have. Also, this one came really tight, it's just built like a tank and it won't budge when under stress. Another great touch for my likes is the half stop, it makes the knife that much easier to open with gloves on.


I really haven't used it enough yet to fully say it is the better knife, but I would lean towards it over the SB JR.

Thanx Caleb;that's just what I'm looking for good area of comparison especially the half stops with gloves on.Although I'm not a lanyard guy I do like the hole and the thick handle on that #71 It's going to be a good skinner I don't use the Sodbuster at work anymore can't get enough leverage for stripping large cable

Most of you probably saw this..............but GEC will be doing a run of these in black.
I really like the pattern, and the first ones are extremely well made (did not use mine).

Got mine in hand yesterday, and as I suspected, I really like this knife!

Not sure what it is about it, but it just "clicks" - orange handles and all - it's just excellent!
