All About Pocket Knives

Those are some nice looking Barlow's--what is the $$ on them? X-Mas time too they'll be sold out by the time I can scrape up enough doe for one. I've always liked Barlow's just sold QuickSteel a Stag Barlow that was from my brother's collection and it was killin me cause I couldn't afford it.

Man how the heck are we supposed to choose between that ebony or the bone? Putting out two variations that look THAT good at once is just cruel. Anyone know of a poorly guarded bank?...I'll scrounge up some ski masks, whose in?

So what are the pics with stamped bolster and etch??? SFO's?

Well.... "IF" I understand correctly, it indeed looks like the stamped bolster /etched knives pictured are in fact SFO's

Guys, the stamped bolster barlows are indeed a SFO being made for Charlie Compangna or Upnorth on this forum. You'll need to contact him for ordering as far as I know at this time. (Sorry Charlie if I mispelled your name) They came out very nice indeed!

Not being contrary here. I'm not a GEC genius so I'm just boppin' along in blissful ignorance. I'm totally confused by these #15s.

That said, if it were an SFO, why would it have the P-P-P stamp? Where's GECLady when you need her.

After looking at the web site one more time, here's what I think.

#15 Sawyer Barlow - Tidioute with steel frame and stamped bolsters <top only/bare bottom> (ergo the "all steel" label). Saw cut bone handles only. NO EBONY.
Two variations. One with a single spear blade, the other a two blade with spear & pen blades.



#15 Huckleberry Boys Knife - Tidioute with steel frame and top & cap bolsters (ergo the same "all steel" label).
Two variations. One with a single spear blade, the other a two blade with spear & pen blades.
Three handle materials. Nifebrite Acrylic (that same glow in the dark stuff they put on the Hayn' Helper and the Bullnose Work Knife), Jigged Bone and Ebony Wood.


What ever is released in the next week or so, I think that is what it will be. Four knives, two seperate patterns on the same 3-1/2" frame. One pattern a single & double blade barlow and the other pattern a single & two blade jack.

I figured out where you put in your reservation and signed up for a two blade Antique Yellow bone from Charlie's SFO.

GREAT choice on the Antique Yellow … I have a 56 Jack in that color bone and it looks really good in person … more like and antique green with yellow accents, (but I really like green … ) …

From the looks of the pictures on the GEC web sight, they are making good progress on them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for delivery by Christmas.

My apologies to all you fine folks over here at AAPK.
I could have cleared up a lot of questions a while back. In an effort to tear myself away from my *&%@!!<>+& computer, I have been ignoring a lot of good friends!!

Here's the skinny from the inside. After much pleading and cajoling, I convinced Bill at Great Eastern he needed to do a standard Barlow, with a nice stamped "Signature" bolster, sawcut bone handles, all steel construction, and anything else that spells Traditional!
The only thing I couldn't get, was peened pins. Too many cracked handles put the kibosh on them, so we got spun pins.
I sent a roll of top choices from my Barlow collection to GEC, so we could discuss them over 3000 miles apart, with some understanding. We decided on the proportions of a sweet New York Knife Co. single blade Barlow.
It is not too "blocky" or "chunky" like some Barlows can be. I designed the stamping on the Bolster, keeping it simple and bold. I toyed with the idea of "UN-X-LD", but liked the simplicity of "TC", so opted for the Tidioute brand. But we included some UN-X-LD details like the long pulls and more pronounced swedging.
I went to visit Titusville! I am convinced Bill is the most upstanding character I've ever met. And he loves making knives! He's been at it for many years, and he may literally be the best in the business as we speak!!
Bill's engineer who does drawings, CAD, and Laser, work lived in Barsto, CA some while back, on route 15. When they discussed a pattern number, he thought #15 would be cool!
Completely separately, Bill offered that I choose a number for the new pattern!!
I went to my Schrade Cut Co reprint catalog, and found out that SCC Barlows were #15s!!
Coincidence?? Divine intervention?? You decide dear friends!!
Anyway, did I tell you that I ordered enough knives for a whole run? And Bill piggybacked his Boys' Knives - "Huckleberries" to help spread out the cost of the tooling. He had actually been planning a regular Jack, and this whole deal just pushed up the schedule a bit.
The PPP etch means the first production run for this pattern, to answer one question. I hope I have answered the rest!

Well look, look, look. The #15 Huckleberry Boy's Knife just came up on the Early Bird page at CK.net. It has such an old timey look, I just had to pull the trigger on a two blade with ebony handles (and I'm here to tell ya, I'm definitely not a wood handle kind of guy. At all!).

There are single blade models and two blade models handled in glow in the dark acrylic, ebony and bright red jigged bone. Compared to some of GEC's other knives, I thought the prices are very reasonable.

According to M.L. there has been a hold up on the release and shipping of the #15 Sawyer Barlow. Something about production problems and all the handle materials may not make it out the door. (my interruption of what was said) Stand by to stand by.
