I understand what Jerry has said. I cannot argue the point. It is very complicated.
Some people are wired differently from others and alcoholism is more likely to occur with them than with others. It has something to do with how they metabolize alcohol.
I have that tendency, based on extended family history on my father's side.
I choose not to drink to excess. I rarely go beyond two mixed drinks in any social situation and never keep alcohol in my home.
I stopped going to "parties" long ago.
So, one can choose not to follow their inner urges.
The Bible is pretty plain re' homosexuality, but it is not regarded as being any worse than any other sin. I know everyone doesn't follow the teachings contained in the Bible, but I do and if homosexuality is a sin, then God provides an escape to avoid it, so one is not actually compelled to follow that life style.
That said, my biggest problem with the lesbian, gay and transgender community is their insistence that the rest of us recognize and accommodate their right to practice it.
OK. Fine. Be gay.
But, they are only 2% of the population, although they insist that it is higher. It is not.
2%.
And that does not constitute a majority in any way, so why should the rest of us be forced to accommodate their practices, watch it portrayed and celebrated on prime-time TV, in commercials and in our daily lives.
They want their lifestyle offered as a viable, acceptable alternative to grade school children.
I'm a monogamous heterosexual male and I suspect that together with the women in this country that are heterosexual, about 98% of our population follows that lifestyle, yet very few of us flaunt it openly on the streets in "straight" sexually explicit parades, etc.
Take it indoors folks. Leave the rest of us the heck alone.
