Congratulations Unk. It's a really sweet mod. Do you have any mod'ed with other handle materials?

I have to confess, after seeing how good yours looked Jerry, I asked Herman to put some Sambar on an 863 for an EDC. He left the factory finish on the blades and no shield. I've been carrying it for about a month now.

Doug, as you so well know, not only does Herman do a fantastic job, the 863 is a great platform to showcase his talents. Good decision.

Hi Jerry, no, all the rest of mine are Delrin and a couple of older "Bonite". I do have one bone handle example, but it is "from the factory" (Walden) as well.

Thanks Jerry and UNK. I reckon I'll be collecting Herman's knives for as long as he'll make them. I just sent him a 166 Buffallo Bill Bowie to re-handle in Ram's Horn...plus a little file work on the blade and the guard. I keep telling him that I'm not going to be happy until I hit the 200 mark.

Couple beauties from Herman this week.
An 863 and 898. Always a good day when a package from Herman is waiting for you.

Nice. I assume that the 898 had celluloid handles before re-handling? Otherwise the same knife as an 899, which had 'jigged' Delrin or, earlier, jigged bone. Hal B. and I like to call those 3 9/16 inch knives with a very svelte profile "Slenderinos." Our little gag.

Well I was pretty sure it was an 898 but it did have jigged derlin for sure. Have to dig it out and take another look. I'm still in denile that I need glasses but it's getting to that point. That is good information though.

Those are a couple of beauties..that 898 is one of the "Slenderinos" I haven't got in my H.W. collection. Very well done

Thank you, it took a while for me to realize the 899 was a great candidate to get done. I am lucky to have some knives done by Herman. Typically if I have a pattern done by Herman i stop looking for that pattern in my collection. I consider them to be as good or better. I think I have a couple slenderinos you guys might like to see.

I couldn't agree with you more, Jay. Why not start a "Slenderino" thread and post some pics of you other knives...I have few of them myself.
