Who bought the Camillus name?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Absolutely true. People that don’t know the real thing are accepting poor copies because they don’t have the real deal to compare it to.

If Camillus was an Italian Restaurant. They made great food at a fair price. Nothing too fancy but quality and value.

It goes on for multiple Generations. Ups and downs but pretty consistent. Due to a variety of reasons they are forced out of business.

Then a Chinese couple buys the business. Do you want the stoves and ovens and pots and pans? Nope we have a better way. All our food will be prepared by an Italian Chef. Do you want our recipes? Nope our Italian Chef has his own recipes.

The new owners take over. The kitchen is fully stocked with Chef Boyardee. And a can opener.

For a few years the loyal patrons still come to the restaurant. Full of happy memories and full of hope. They are let down.

The new generation of customers are happy with the food. They don’t know any better.

I like what eveled wrote, too and expanding the thought a bit I would say that his term "new generation" has a lot to do with the patterns we now see from most companies, the tactical or as I like to say the "zombie killer".

Philip, I wonder if the popularity of the tactical / "zombie killer" knives with the younger generation is multifaceted. Maybe influenced by contemperory movies, television, an over protective generation of parents, a couple of generations of urban dwellers, etc, etc.

Although the traditional knife manufacturers have shrunk dramatically in the USA in the last 15 to 20 years, there is a thriving quality knife manufacturing industry for the new style of knives. Not all of that industry is tactical knives. I would make the case that Benchmade, Kershaw and even Gerber are doing quite well making products here and overseas. This allows them to remain profitable as still make incredibly high quality knives in the US. Perhaps not the ideal scenario but certainly preferable to losing the industry entirely to overseas manufacturers.

Nothing against tactical or zombie killer knives per se, but there are many knife collectors who love traditional folders as they have been mad for more than 100 years. Many of Bucks new knives are modern whereas many of their traditional are made overseas and sold in blister packs. It’s a shame.

I believe Buck is committed to bringing production back to the US. Too bad Buck didn’t buy Camillus or Queen.

If Camillus didn’t go under. Buck probably never would have went to China for their slip joints.

Buck seems to have given Camillus as much business as possible. It was a perfect partnership.

They used Schrade too as I recall but had trouble with the Swinden key.

Camillus made knives for everyone it seems. Craftsman Buck BoyScouts. I’m sure Anyone else who asked and paid.

So, just to recap, the question was "Who bought the Camillus name?" The answer was Acme United Corporation.

I have the same exact knife without the Zombie shield. I’ve not seen that. Mine is identical green and yellow Delrin with no shield.

Yes, yes, it was my topic, but then no one could give a concrete answer. I was hoping that some information might be coming now  .

I believe the zombie knife made for Remington is green and yellow because if I remember correctly, those are the colors of the Remington logo.
